The catalogue of changes seem to be unimpressive and not worth the money. Most of them are minor bugfixes and quite a few removing features!

Nothing compelling added as far as I can see:

http://www.techsmith...-history.html?ver=11.

I have bought versions of SnagIt since version 2 but I don't think I will bother with this upgrade.

(By the way I thought SnagIt had supported video capture for some time - the ionly mew feature seems to be MP4 support, and output directly to three webservers - two of which belong to TechSmith and are subscription based)

Shameless plug:

I hope potential SnagIt users will check also out my Screenshot Captor tool as an alternative, or if you want to see a different kind of program for video capture (of webcam not desktop), check out WebCam Video Diary.

I still do use Screenshot Captor myself. It is a great tool. Nice work on it, using whatever third party components and code from the web you use. It came together well. My intention was not to advertise some competing product, as clearly they are full blown commercial. It was more 'informational'

Er - please can someone correct the typo in the title of this thread?  "SangIt" -> "SnagIt?"

Big difference in resource usage with Screenshot Capture idling at around 300k.
The others are usually much more.

Windows System Requirements
.NET 4.0 or later required for video.

One more reason to stay with v10 ;(

This is true.  Snagit 11 sitting idle is never below 50MB.  You'll probably want the Editor running in the background.  That's another 50MB.   It does have some nice features that are not present in ScreenShot Captor, but SSC also has some nice features that are not available in SnagIt.   SSC is definitely more customizable, and plays nicer with other apps.  SnagIt is very proprietary--for example a fellow wrote a plug-in to do Imgur uploads https://github.com/hmemcpy/SnagitImgur but it can't be installed directly because the SnagIt security is so high....   Pretty frustrating, and not geek-friendly.

Personally, I bought and use (on a regular basis) FastStone capture. I was turned on to this tool when I was on a temporary assignment with the US Military and fell in love with just how simple it is to use. Plus, $20 for lifetime updates....can't beat that!

I quite like the simplicity of FastStone Capture as well, I miss stuff like the blur option from GreenShot though, which is even free.

I own a copy of SnagIt 10, which I got for free.  I agree with those who said they saw little reason to upgrade to SnagIt 11 (esp. since it would cost me $25 to upgrade).  Having tried SnagIt 10, I found that for most things, I much prefer the program I've been using for well over a decade: HyperSnap.  I find it faster and much easier to use the SnagIt and much less resource-heavy.  I haven't tried other screen-capture programs because I've been so pleased with HyperSnap.  If HyperSnap were to disappear, I still wouldn't turn to SnagIt as my everyday program.  Instead, I think I'd give Screenshot Captor a serious try.

I have version 10, but am reluctant to upgrade to 11
Have you noticed how much was taken OUT of v.11?

Personally, as a long-time Snagit user, I'm on 90% SC now and only 10% Snagit.

oops! I don't have an installer for version 10! I don't have the program installed, and TechSmith has no link for "update your version 10", only "upgrade to version 11"! Can someone give me a link to / copy of (preferably the latest) Snagit version 10 PLEASE ?

Which version are you using?  I have a license for Hypersnap 6, but would have to pay for 7.  I rarely use it because (IIRC) the license is per-installation, and I have it on one of my USB sticks.  If that stick isn't plugged in, and it usually isn't, then I usually resort to SSC or WinSnap.

I'm having issues with the right balance of features and ease of use in this type of program.  SSC is complicated and I can't always get it to behave.

I'm using version 7.  I paid to upgrade from version 6 (which IIRC was a free upgrade from version 5).  The license says it can be used by only one person, but it can be installed on two or more computers that I own, as long as I'm the only one using it.  I have it on my netbook as well as my Win7 desktop.  I don't have it on a USB stick, and I don't know how the licensing works with that.  You might write to Greg (the developer) and ask him.

I think what he means is what is also my problem with SSC, and also the single complaint in the recent dotTech review -- SSC is incredibly powerful and can do almost anything you may want, sometimes it just ends up being like installing an office suite to write a grocery list :-[.
