You mentioned this is a work computer. Perhaps the proxy settings are locked down?

no, its a laptop and i have administrative rights on it. When I am outside office network then I need to connect office VPN to access official domain (email etc). But I when I am connected with office VPN, i can not use internet unless i enable the proxy. Now, I only need to enable proxy when I am connected to office VPN. when i disconnect VPN, I need to disable proxy to access internet again .

I don't know what the issue is.  I've tested the application under Win7 Ultimate (64-bit) and it works for me.

skwire,

Thanks for IEProxyToggle ... I had a need for it today and your app nails it! It runs smoothly on Win10 64-bit, as provided, but because I found the tray icons too subtle, I tried to swap out the 0.ico and 1.ico files as per the changelog.txt file instructions.

I found 2 icon substitutions that I liked (0.ico and 1.ico), but when I replaced the default icons by renaming the PNG files to their proper ones and then resizing them in MS Paint from 48 to 16 pixels to match the size of the defaults, the program would not run correctly.

FYI:

1) I exited the program before replacing the icon files
2) I tried running the program as admin by right-clicking "IEProxyToggle.exe" file and selecting "Run as administrator"
3) I rebooted the computer

In all cases, running the program would return the same error:

---------------------------
IEProxyToggle.exe
---------------------------
Error:  Can't load icon.

Specifically: K:\User\Documents\Apps\IEProxyToggle\res\1.ico

Line#
---> 107: Menu,Tray,Icon,Temp_Dir . "\" . GetProxy() . ".ico"

The current thread will exit.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

The program itself appears to run correctly because toggling the proxy state will enable or disable it, but the error message appears each time with only the "Specifically: K:\User\Documents\Apps\IEProxyToggle\res\1.ico" line changing the name of the icon file at the end of the string, i.e., from "...\res\0.ico" to "...\res\1.ico".

Do you have any idea why this may be happening?

Thanks for such a simple yet effective app!

... Do you have any idea why this may be happening? ...

No worries ... I figured it out on my own!! (don't you just love when that happens?!) ;)

I ended up running those new icon files through an online editor (shout out to xiconeditor.com !!), replacing the ones I created there with the ones I originally modified for pixel size and file name, and voilĂ , the program runs correctly with the right icons showing up when toggling. :D

Thanks again, skwire, for a wonderful app. :)

Hi, Ximinez, and welcome to the DonationCoder site.

I'm glad you figured it out as I was going to suggest you convert the PNG files to ICO files.   :)  Good to know it works on Windows 10, too.

Hi, Ximinez, and welcome to the DonationCoder site ...

LOL ... I've been a member of this site since 2008, but this is my first time posting so I guess a welcome seems appropriate.  :-[ Thank-you skwire!

Give this a try:  IE Proxy Toggle

Green icon means the proxy is enabled; a grey icon means disabled.  Single-click the tray icon to toggle or use the right-click menu.  Tested on XPSP3/32 and W7/64.

I had to register to thank you for this perfect app. One click turns it on or off. Working fine on Windows Server 2012 R2. So awesome.

You mentioned this is a work computer. Perhaps the proxy settings are locked down?

It works well in my personal laptop.

But What to do if the proxy settings are locked down? and i don't have the admin rights of my office laptop. Thank you

This is a beautiful solution. I was so excited to finally have an elegant way to toggle this setting. In my case, I must toggle it on/off several times a day, so having something that can do that and have a visual indicator of its status...incredible.

However, it does not work for me because it's actually the checkbox right above this one that I need toggled.  :(
That is: Use automatic configuration script

As it stands now, in addition to this program not being able to toggle that checkbox, it clears the accompanying "Address" text. Any thoughts on adding a feature so that the user can choose which of these textboxes to toggle? Is there any reason it wouldn't be plausible?

Thanks so much!  :)

some programs, if vpn is enabled, reset the proxy settings. after switching off, I click turn on the proxy, the program turns on, but in fact the proxy is not configured, there is only port 80 without an address and I don't know about it, the proxy looks like it works for me. Is it possible to add to this program so that it checks if there is my proxy setting or is it empty?
