Shapeways: Customize and create 3D printed products

(1/1)

daddydave:
I stumbled onto this site looking for Raspberry Pi cases. I didn't realize 3-D printing had gone that mainstream. Sorry if this looks a little spammy, it is a commerical site, I have no affiliation.

Customize and create 3D printed products...print your products in 25 materials, including metals, ceramics, and glass.

Just been browsing through the store. I think my mind has been blown. We can now upload/sell/buy 3D printed objects??? We are living in the future. Official.

It didn't take long to wonder about creating a 3D cody... they've even got something similar already...

Sooner or later there will be a printer that can print more printers...  "Replicators" if you will.  This will mark the beginning of the end....   :P

Edvard:
Already done.

Over the next few minutes, this "MakerBot" will do something I can only dream of doing: it will create a spare part of itself as an insurance against future mishaps. Staring at the Heath Robinson-style kit before me, it is hard to believe that it - and a few hundred other devices - are paving the way to an era of desktop machines that can make just about anything, including copies of themselves.
