'new' file manager - Elyse

personally I haven't used it beyond a cursory inspection, so I can't comment on the functionality or capabilities with any authority.  I rather liked the concept though, so I'll have a bit more of a game with it at some stage (HA!)

FWIW though I don't see it replacing a regular file manager, maybe complimenting it in some circumstances, but YMMV

Lots of files on your PC have the exact same name. They can't go in the same location without overwriting each other.-Deozaan (August 03, 2011, 09:50 PM)

from what I can see, it doesn't actually move any of your files, but tracks their location in a database, so a single file could be tagged multiple ways without affecting the actual filename or location

Looks interesting. Any word on license terms and price?-40hz (August 03, 2011, 09:55 PM)

As far as I can tell it's freeware - the app can be unpacked (using UniExtract) and runs fine as portable, and you can view the licence through the help menu

I haven't tried it out yet but it seemed it might be a good freeware substitute for Extensis Portfolio for cataloging media files, especially images.

I do plan on trying it out since Extensis Portfolio is quite expensive and out of reach for most people. If it makes a good substitute for handling a large image collection, I'll probably start recommending it.

Thanks Target. Great tip. It is working well for organizing my 'cheat sheets'.

So this is something like Win7's "libraries" as a separate software or what?
