The social network icon flood is getting crowded

Saw this line of social network icons on an article page today. This is crazy. It's almost a cry for help -- "Look at me! Comment on me! Tell your friends about me!"

I was about to say that Google+ was missing, but I guess it having a blue icon is not what I would expect from a google product. Yellow or red (or both) is more their style. Not that it matters - I don't use Google+. :D

There should only be an icon that goes (few lines down) to the same page's comment form  :P

I don't have icons on my site. I noticed speed increase when i removed that. These sharethis, diggthis or social icons make more external HTTP requests which increases the load time. So i simply removed it. One more thing, people hardly share using these icons.

Addthis, Sharethis, Onlywire are adding clutter too. Besides some of them do have security issues as well.

I could not resist the temptation and placed a couple of buttons on my web, but I am trying to keep the number reasonable.

10 is too much, 4 is the right number for me. People hate to have too many options.

I good rule is to add a social network button only after some visitors came from that network without having the button.

I like this approach. If user is from google+ then ask him to like FB or Tweet. If he's from facebook, ask him to +1 on g+, tweet and others.
