Google+ is kind of an odd name for this product though. It makes it sound like it's an improved version of Google (the search engine). Possible alternatives:

Yougoogley
Gyougle
Yougle

Odd. I'll try again with the email. That at least should have gone through.

Google hates me~!  :o

Same thing. Didn't go through. My guess is that they've got a serious backlog. Hmmm... Wonder if there's an "ex-lax for email servers" app out there... Or maybe they're just not using iPhones at Google. :)

I did check the spam folder. Alas, only rolex watches and viagra there...

Won't matter for the moment. They have an apology posted if you've received an invite but can't get in: Already invited? We've temporarily exceeded our capacity. Please try again soon

It feels like Wave all over. ;D

Attempted sending out 2 invites again. Ren, Jibz, let me know if either of you get an email. Note: ironically my legitimate Google+ invite earlier today ended up in my Gmail spam folder! So be sure to check there. ;)

Nothing yet, will check a bit later :).

Really nice review, JavaJones! Thanks for taking the time to explore it and explain it.

The one thing some have said is odd is that it's not integrated with Gmail like Facebook's new "messaging center" email thingy. I don't think that just because FB is doing it Google should too, but I do note a distinct lack of a real "private message", "direct message", or similar type feature (as far as I can tell). Your G+ contacts are your Gmail contacts though I think (haven't tested whether adding someone through G+ adds them to my Gmail contacts though), so theoretically you can just jump over to gmail to email them if you want. There's also direct chat and Hangouts. Still I see this as something that needs addressing somehow. Many a mini embedded Gmail interface or something.

I think they do have built in direct messages/PM. It's called Chat. I believe if you send a chat to someone who is offline it will show up when they sign in. Possibly it will even go to their inbox.

Alternatively, you can make a post or Stream or whatever it's called to a single individual or even multiple specific individuals. It doesn't have to go to an entire circle.

That's because it will be. Once it knows your interests it can search information and present it to you without you leaving the site.

@JavaJones: I am already on the waiting list and have installed the android App, however if you would like to send a complete stranger an invite, I would be very appreciative.  :tellme:

Another cool feature: there are notifications in the Google Bar I mentioned before. This could be pretty simple, click it and it says "You've got a new stream post from Bob, click here to read it". But they went a big step further. Clicking the notification icon gives you a dropdown showing your recent notifications (not just the unread ones), *and* if you click one it pops out a mini-view of the whole post (or whatever the notification is about), and you can *comment right there*. In fact you can do a lot of other things in that mini view too, and when you're done you just click the notification button to close it again. Never interrupts your work or takes you away from the other page. Again I really think they need to roll out an optional global "Google Bar" that follows you around the 'net (and no I don't want to have to install the Google Toolbar to get it!).

The Hangout feature I mentioned earlier is definitely a potential "killer feature", but also Huddles could end up being really popular for mobile users. It's basically dead simple group chat on your mobile. There are other apps that do it but this will basically work easily and quickly on every Android phone out there and it could gain a user base very quickly. It's great for planning stuff to do, meeting up, etc.

Deo, you're right about chats and private stream posts and how they can kind of work like direct messages (with offline support). The chat system is exactly the same as the one they've had integrated in Gmail for ages (GChat). That being said they still have GMail, and a full direct messaging system will happen I think, probably just invoking Gmail.

Regarding the "we're over capacity" message, I had that too before I got my invite. When I got the invite it still let me in even though it was saying that on their front page. So... *shrug*

I'm still attempting to use my loophole and it seems to be working *sometimes*.

Maybe it's limited to certain countries or something? .. still no luck for me sadly ;D.

Mmm, interesting idea that it may be limited to some countries. Though I'm trying it now with a friend in the US and he hasn't gotten an email yet either. They may have just plugged the hole, though it seems to me they should now have a message saying "You can't invite people to Hangout who are not part of Google+" or something. Oh well.

I was thinking about the Hangouts system more and I think it has a lot of potential for future expansion as well. Imagine taking the underlying group video and text chat capability and then there's the shared YouTube watching, now add shared web browsing (I think someone has done this before), shared white board, etc. It could become both a great, fun shared web experience (beyond just video) *and* a great collaboration tool. Very promising.

Thx!

Maybe it's really just a delay, like they say on the website.

Ok...I've got half my friends & family all over me asking what this thing is about.

If anyone  has a spare invitation I'd be grateful if you could extend it to me.

Thx.

UPDATE 05-Jul-2011: Cancel above request. Got a chance to see it in action while looking over the shoulder of a friend who did manage to get an account. It's...ok I guess.

I'm not planning on joining.  :)

Google+ is in limited Field Trial. During this time, when you share something with people who aren't yet able to use Google+, they'll receive it via email but won't be able to comment or engage with the content like other Google+ users. They'll be able to join Google+ as we let more users in over time.

Yeah, the limit has been in place almost since it launched. But there was a loophole that appears now to be closed. Sorry to anyone who hasn't gotten in! I'll try to send out more invites if I get the option later.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA~!  ;D

Fagoogle! Fagle! Reminds me of that South Park episode, "The F Word". (Excellent episode.)

The first thought that came to my head when reading "Fagle" was "faggy". :P
