Performance in New Version
« on: March 05, 2006, 07:03:26 PM »
Thanks a lot mouser!  The new version is much more responsive!  I'll keep testing, but as of now it is what I had hoped for!  Thanks,

Kevin

let me add that this is just a stopgap version. version 2 is still on track and will be MUCH MUCH faster.

not only am i optimizing everything but i have decided to implement (optional) indexing in a way i think will be really cool.

Sweet stuff! Good to see FARR is still alive and well :). Can I install this version over the latest stable one? Or should I get rid of that one first and install the beta?

I can confirm the excessive disk activity on startup using history list is fixed:

Now FARR performs only ~500 disk operations compared to ~3000 before. Most of that activity is scanning files for icons and doing something with desktop.ini in the monitored directories.

Thanks mouser!

for those curious - the difference in disk operations at startup relate to filling the list with items from your past history on startup - it was essentially rescoring all items in your past history on startup - now it just grabs the top 10 or so.
