Yeah...I was raised in Arkansas but live in Ohio for now.
I have family in Arkansas and Georgia.
Friends all over the South.
They came close but no one was hurt except power outages.
When the sky turns dark Black/Green and you can touch it.
Or you see the low black wall of clouds coming....
Best be in the basement if you have one.

If the media would stop trying to sensationalize the weather forecast into a carnival...People might actually start taking the damn thing seriously.
Fancy graphics and babble come flying out of their heads in such a gushing fashion, that if you don't listen carefully you will probably miss the actual "forecast". Enough with the entertaining rhetoric, just answer two questions:
Is it going to rain?
-and-
Do I need a jacket?
They've been predicting "severe" weather every day for the past month or so ... and It ain't even rained yet. And no, they weren't predicting that it was going to be severely hot & dry.

SPECIAL REPORT: Storms hit TriCities | TriCities.com11 videos are in the playlist for it. I think our local weathermen/storm teams around here saved a lot of lives with lots of coverage of the radar and talking about what they was seeing on the radar. So I give them a big  for how they handled the storms moving through last night.

I'm just happy one of my neighbors learned late yesterday afternoon that his sister, who lives right outside of Tuscaloosa, is ok. And still has her house. Do I need a jacket?

I was talking to a friend of mine that lives in Alabama the other day...told him I heard on the news there was grapefruit sized hail down there. He said it was more like bowling balls. |

When I first moved to Ohio, the sirens would be turned on for any storms. People ignored them. Till some Southerner got their ear. In the south, the sirens mean get inside and take cover- Tornado is on the ground or good possibility of forming. Very seriously watched and listened to warnings. Mine just pops up NYC - which is close enough since it's weather is either directly overhead where I live, or arriving shortly afterwards. We're approximately 48 miles (77 km) east from Manhattan Island.  From any one of our town beaches, go out onto Long Island Sound (see above) and head west turning past the breakwater of that lovely house. on the right. Continue west and look for the Whitestone and Throgs Neck lighthouse beacons. When you see them, continue west and pass under the RFK Bridge onto the East River. Congrats! You've arrived at The Big Apple about five blocks away from Central Park. (You can also drive or take the metrorail. But the 'scenery' isn't that great if you do. ) |

Another simple weather website, that not only answers the question "Do I need a jacket?" but also defines how heavy that jacket should be, whether you also need sunglasses, umbrella, hat, gloves, scarf, etc...by showing you images of how certain people would look when dressed for the weather. Obama is the default, but you can also choose from Bender, House, Angelina Jolie, Bruce Lee, and Ashton Kutcher. |
