Make sure you try out the new feature that lets you list contents of a folder sorted by date and with dates shown.. could be useful for documents folder nodes.

LaunchBar Commander BMP background color files for download (v.alpha)
For me, it was love at first sight with LBC, been looking for something like this for a while now.  That is excepting that I wasn't exactly crazy about the available (Delphi) background colors.  So I went ahead & mixed some of my own, which you can download right here via the attached .zip file.  Even though the .zip archive is only 8k, it expands to 14 different color background files — each 254k.  The tiling BMP images are each 360px square.  Unzip the archive & use the palette illustration to find a bgcolor that you like.  From inside your LBC Preferences you can then set your own Background Display as Background Image and point it to your unzipped BMP file.  The BMP filenames look something like this:  360px#224455_dk-blue-gray.bmp — the #224455 is the hexadecimal (HTML) code for a dk-blue-gray color.  The colors seem to shift going between .BMP & .PNG formats.  LBC wants BMP for backgrounds.

200x700_LBC_bgcolors_2015.png

You might find that the label text on icons is more readable on these flat backgrounds.  Plus, you can change your LBC text color!
Big thx to mouser for his excellent & fun productivity software!

Enjoy!   8)

As a result of playing with this, I have found that LBC doesn't support %APPDRIVE% in the path to a background image file...  :o

Nice work -- I may need to steal your idea and make some more colours, though. :D

Oblivion —
steal away.  I tend to like grayed-out or fogged-out (low intensity) colors, while others prefer glossy, metallic, high intensity colors.  I'll try to build a few more when I can get to it.

Tomos —
I'll try to post a screenshot.  Very busy right now.  I don't have much to show because I've only been working with LBC for a couple days now.  Great program.

Image shows 4 of my flat color, bitmapped backgrounds for LBC — only the vertical column at right:
#224466 (dark bluish), #663333 (dark reddish), #336666 (tealish), #000000 (black)
See earlier comments on how to download the 14 BMP tiling backgrounds.

Sorry if this is a too-old thread, but I just used it today... As an alternative behavior when hovering over a selected icon, instead of inverting the icon, could the icon be outlined in a solid color. For example, when hovered-over, the icon edge would turn yellow or red?

Obviously not a huge issue, but I noticed that most of my icons look bad inverted. Sorry if this is already a feature/option I don't see.

Thanks mouser, for a great tool. I've noticed that on Win 10 the Start Menu "goes in and out of working properly," so I'm happy to have a better alternative.

I'm afraid the inversion effect is hardcoded into the theme control -- you could try changing the theme in the root options of LBC and see if any of the other themes look better.

Here is mine.  Nothing fancy.  Purely utilitarian.
The yellow C is an icon for a shortcut which opens the C: drive

The black C opens Colin's (that's me) Docs:  the black T opens my wife's Docs

The black P is the Postbox - a shared folder for passing stuff around the family PCs in the house
(Black because it lives on my PC.  On their PCs it's red)

The rest are shortcuts to stuff I use all the time - mostly programs, but two websites.

Those big spaces (above the Separators) are white icons with no Command.

I know LBC can do a lot more than that, but it's all I need and it works very well.

Hey Colin, thanks for sharing!  Looks nice

Regarding your white icons with no command, I wonder if folks would like me to add a special spacer item that would do that but leave the background transparent..

Hi Mouser
I think it's a good idea.  Personally, I like the big gaps as it simply makes the bar easier to "read" at a glance.
I don't need white.  A ready-made transparent one would look good and save people having to make their own.

I used to have my bar full height of the screen, but I like it a lot better now that its only taking up part of the vertical height:

Thank you mouser for this outstanding freeware! I was using 'Biniware Run' 'menuApp' 'PopSel' and 'Spencer', that are also good freeware before. Finally now 'LaunchBar Commander' definitely gets me around the Windows 10 Startmenu ;) clutter! I tried to make it match my Windows look, see the result with the eos skin in the picture below. The only setting I couldn't figure out is how to get rid of the grey border, it's set to 'no border' in the options, I guess it's a 'Windows thing'...

Sorry I'm late to the party. I love this software, been using it for ages, it is so flexible and reliable.

I don't like the sidebar options, so I minimize it to the tray and launch it with a short key. I currently have my 1220 programs (90% portable) nicely organised. It would be nice to have an option to export the menu to a readable format like CSV, JSON or XML, but apart from that, no complaints. Thank you.

I originally tried LBC in 2013
Just decided to give it another go but I can't make head nor tail of the help
Here's my setup failure screenshot which hopefully is self explanatory
Is it an old help document or have I just got 8 years dumber?

That screenshot is a little confusing, and LBC can have a steep initial learning curve because of a few strange features.  Because it lets you have multiple launchbar "files" open at the same time, you are finding it wanting you to start with first adding a FILE.  so try creating a new launchbar file or OPENING the sample one.  Start from there.  with a file open you can create new nodes.
