PORTAL 2 AVAILABLE NOW FOR PRE-ORDER
« on: February 14, 2011, 07:19 PM »

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced that outlets worldwide (retailers and Steam) are now accepting pre-order reservations for Portal 2, the epic sequel named the "Most Anticipated Game of 2011" at the Spike TV Video Game Awards.

Special pre-order offers vary at participating outlets around the world and include a variety of dollars off and/or exclusive in-game content for those who reserve the game for purchase before it is released the week of April 18. These include $5 off the full price, exclusive in-game skins for the coop bots (Atlas and P-body), and more. Check your favorite outlet for details.

...

Available for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Macintosh computers, Portal 2 is scheduled to ship worldwide the week of April 18, 2011. For more information, please visit www.thinkwithportals.com.

Gah, the discounted price is €45? That's insanely expensive, IMHO! In my mind, the Portal franchise isn't comparable to "regular" games, and I think Valve are creeps for pricing their downloads so high - when cutting out the whole physical media and regular delivery chain, prices ought to be craploads lower. WoW:Cataclysm, including physical media and delivery, is €30.

But I'll probably still sucker up, while cursing through my teeth at Valve, and longing for more HalfLife goodness.

No, it's DVD based too
That's PS3, though, not PC. But oooooh, there was a recommendation from that link - ICO + SOTC, didn't know they had remastered it for PS3. Those games =  :-* :-* :-*

We have a PS3? I knew I was a bit distant at times. But this is getting ridiculous!

With the game only 10 days away, Valve is releasing some great materials for promo of portal 2.

That said, I think my wife and I might need some "crisis resolution", see the excerpt, page 31455, of the installation guide below.

The early release is a lie!

EDIT: Also, GlaDOS was a homicidal megalomaniacal robot AI. Why would anyone want to reboot her? People are crazy and/or stupid.

I certainly wouldn't call £3.50 micro transactions - that's a fair amount of cash.

It's a pint of beer ;)

(Actually, in most Irish pubs it wouldn't even get you a pint :( )

Releases 21st in UK - I ordered a copy (don't know why as I am not really a gamer but it looked intriguing) from Amazon and it is in the post!

Been there - done it - got the T-Shirt (at least for the single player game).

I have to say I am not really a game fan but I REALLY enjoyed this one and immediately bought Portal because I felt bereft when I finished it and had missed the original when it was released (you can buy it online from steam much cheaper than old copies at online retailers - just a large download so you need a reasonably fast internet connection).

Personally I prefer Portal 2 - the end game is nowhere near as random or long winded (which suits me) and there was some genuinely funny story telling and twists to the plot.

I have now started Half-Life 2 Episode 1 and am enjoying that too - although I find the story line goes on a bit and I am not overly bothered with the shoot-em-up aspect of the game.

Now I need to try Portal 2 in the multiplayer version - unfortunately I am a sad loser and don't have any friends so it is a bit tricky! I don't feel it is appropriate for a middle-aged woman to pick up random teenage boys via the web interface (though I don't know it might have some interest .... no no never mind)
