My 'LOL' alternative

I've never liked typing 'lol'.  It doesn't ever reflect the accuracy of the emotion.  It's too smug and quiet for what it stands for.  Whenever I see it, I picture someone just kind of smirking.  That's partly due to it's abuse.  I mean, actually "laughing out loud" as the phrase suggests is something that is rare, and it's rarity is to be appreciated as such.  So, I made these 3 video clips from the once popular Everybody Loves Raymond show.  It's not my favorite show, but this particular laughing scene by Robert (Brad Garrett) is probably my favorite TV laugh of all time.  Yes, I categorize a lot of things.  So here they are below for everyone's use.  I even posted the bbcode so you can paste it in the forums if you wish (along with the thumbnail).  Cool, yeah?

LOL (level 1)
i.e. should make you chuckle out loud at your monitor

I know.  Isn't it a shame?  I'm trying to recapture that ability to legitimately laugh out loud.  Not fake it, which is what I normally do if I don't catch myself.  I probably laugh like that at most once every 6 months.  Crazy to say.  I've gotten so cynical.  I don't know.  Actually, I was in tears just the other day...Toy Story 3, when Buzz Lightyear went into Spanish mode.  But I was also crying because the movie was so freaking good.  So it was both...but Buzz really pushed me over the limit.

ooh. that's a good point. i've known about three or four people that would regularly make me laugh until i was doubled over with tears in my eyes. AND, i nolonger see any of them. i miss them too. it's like they've died.

as for capturing it again, superboyac, i know what you mean. i think a few stand-up comedians make me laugh out loud. that's about it.

but, nothing ever makes me go LOL. i'd rather type out haha or heh.

LOL is for LOLcats and that's about it.
