150 Hours of TV / Month?
« on: December 29, 2010, 10:26 AM »
Looking into Google TV ads:

http://www.google.co...ads/guide/index.html

With the average American watching over 150 hours of television per month...

Wow. I'm stunned. That's basically a solid week with no breaks.

Sounds like they averaged the hours per actual users, instead of the US population. Marketing figures, it's all a bunch of ... (fill in your favorite term on the dots)

which would mean the average (US) TV viewer watches 150 hrs p.m.
It's still an impressive statistic -
even if they did try to mislead us...

That works out to 5 hours of TV per day, which if you think about it as 1 hour in the morning, as you are getting ready for work, just to catch the news and weather, another hour of news and junk when you come home, while making/eating dinner, then the 3 hour prime time slot between 8-11 pm, yeah, the average American does watch that much TV.

And for children, it's worse, since you have to add in the after school cartoons, too.

Probably includes all hours a TV is powered on. Think how many fall asleep in front of the TV, or have it on in the bedroom and fall asleep.

Me? I have one 30" LCD HDTV on round the clock! It's a "Dell" brand from 2005 and is a POS, but the power supply in most of these quit working early on and while it stays on OK if you turn it off it is almost impossible to power it back on! (Last time I forgot and turned it off it took cycling the on/off switch 58 times to get it on again.   >:(  )

Oh, and for those who will now lambaste me for the power waste, I plugged this into a Kill-O-Watt meter for three months to see what the damage was and it actually takes surprising little power to run. A mere fraction of a running PC and monitor.

Tech stuff is getting a lot better now. My new monitor sucks up 25kw or 25 something. Tired... I need a nap now...
