French Learning Websites
« on: July 13, 2009, 06:07 AM »
Hi everybody,

This thread is a continuation of Skesselman's thread "WMP & lots of tiny .wav files", in which she was talking about French learning websites.

For those who are interested in learning French I've made a (little) selection of website which can certainly be interesting and seems to be very well done.

Here :
http://french.about.com/

http://www.bonjour.com/ (this one is very interesting and easy : a lot of common words and sentences with the sound that you can listen (without any weird configuration) and the way it would be written in English to make the correct pronunciation)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/french/ (this one is very well done…and clear)

http://www.babbel.com/

http://www.babelnation.com/french/ (the "Facebook" of learning language !)

http://www.verbalpla...com/learn-french.asp (this one is kind of fun, because you can have ‘real’ lessons with a French teacher…on skype !!!  but you have to pay for each session (25-35 $))

More reviews to come after having tested them more deeply.

Amusez-vous bien !  ;)

http://www.francaisfacile.com/ is a nice place too!

You can get into other languages there as well.
What's neat is by clicking on words you can get the pronunciation (may work with IE and Firefox only, not sure).

Other similar ones:
www.toutapprendre.com
www.lingworld.com
www.learnissimo.com
The best way to learn any foreign language, I found, is by combining a self-learning material (like any of the Berlitz books) with an online tutor who will guide you through your lessons.

Here is one link (LiveMocha)for any language that you ever wanted to learn.

You make exercises, both written and audio (so make sure that you have a microphone) as fast as you want/can and they are reviewed by native speakers of the language, which makes for good feedback. It is also free. Personally I cannot find the time to do more with this site, as I am a registered user. That is also where the affiliation ends.
