Make sure to take time to have a look. While not particularly rare, you'll only ever have this opportunity a few times in your life.

That's tonight, March 19th.

BTW - It's beautiful! :)

Here is the science behind the supermoon, again from scienceblogs.com. For people like me, knowing WHY does not make it any less beautiful, quite the opposite!

And while we are on the moon, there are more interesting facts, a little easier to read.

Great links!

They remind me of Symphony of Science.

My favorite is "We Are All Connected". It's a moving piece.

Silly. The moon is always the same size.

It just appears larger or smaller depending on sciency stuff like perigee.

Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to take a look! If the clouds ever go away...

Looking out over Southport Harbor facing Long Island. Absolutely stunning.

It's dark now. And overcast... :(

EDIT: The moon was still behind the horizon when I wrote that. It is overcast, but the moon is managing to shine through the cloud cover. :) Looks great.

I tried to get some pictures, but my camera/lens isn't powerful enough. I got some "ok" pictures of the sky with the moon, but zooming in the moon resolution is just too poor.

Too much cloud where I am, hopefully it will be just as big tonight, and no clouds haha

@housetier: I saw those on The Huffington Post's web site too.  Really nice photos there, check them out:  Huffington Post-Supermoon Images

Here is one I took(not the greatest, but I like it):

too bad I don't have any equipment to take acceptable photos of the moon, not even a tripod.

Nice to look at other people's photos though :) Even though some of them are HUGE! ;)

Well, downloaded the pics I have, and this is the best of the lot:

Sigh...

I need to invest in a new lens. (But happy with resizing it with my new Photo Resizer~! :) )

Here's where I got the pics.

Did a search for it and I have a nasa feed.

One I didn't post but is in my flickr feed.

Downloading disabled - don't really understand why some people do that.
