Carol's Clothes come off ...
« on: February 14, 2006, 02:44 AM »
Well not quite but I have been inspired by the winter Olympics - hence the new avatar.

Anyone else got suitable Olympic Avatars to show themselves off to the full ;)

(Now if only I could actually get into that position!)

Sorry, but I find animations to be distracting when I'm reading forums  :(

This is definitely why I love having all signatures & avatars turned off. :)

Neither can I, but...

but in case anyone is interested in turning off avatars and signatures:
...how about a mod, like "do not show .gif avatars"?

I certainly won't be competing in the olympics in this life time and doubt I'll have earned enough Karma to get an olympian's body (or motivation!) in the next -- so it goes.  I suppose I could add a gradient overlay in US colors over my avatar though :) Nice avatar.

-- I too really like having avatars/sigs on, I have the bandwidth to handle it and find it ads an extra bit of identity to everyone else.  While by no means a substitute for getting to know someone, it does give a little foresight and make it easy to identify who is posting without having to scrutinize the user name (It's so difficult to read 6-12 characters ;)

I agree with you allen, it is a much better way of recognizing who posts.

Unbelievable... I even give ideas without saying anything...  :tellme:
I think that avatar is nice, but it could be bigger ;)

Na, I like to spin - keeps me warm on the ice.

I can't make it much bigger unless you want me to put on some weight as it is almost maximum avatar height. Just thought it would be nice to be the size I aspire to (rather than reality) ....

Is this better:

...how about a mod, like "do not show .gif avatars"?

How about a browser that allows you to disable gif animation?  :D *cough*Opera*cough*

Or, if your browser supports site-specific stylesheets, just add one for the forums with
img[src$=".gif"] { display: none; }
That means img tags with a src attribute that ends in .gif.

Your browser does support CSS, right?  ;)

What a miserable lot ... I like gif animations they often cheer me up when I'm bored.

If you are going to disable gif on the forums can you make it a user selectable customization please. Also you'd better warn people not to upload gif files as attachments!

hahah cute :)
i'm not disabling them board wide, nor even on my profile, i just think it's a nice feature to have in a browser.
seems like firefox should have a disable gif animation plugin too if someone can find it, so that anyone who wants to disable the animation can.

It is an option, actually--just a hidden one.

about:config

type "animation" in the filter box and hit enter.

Change the value for
image.animation_mode

to 'None' and you won't see animations.  You can also set it to 'Once' for the image to play through its animation cycle once and not repeat.
