Before you start the PHP Assignments
« on: April 20, 2006, 07:37 AM »
To do these assignments you are really going to need access to a web account (with a database for the more advanced assignments).

Perhaps we can set up a test server for people to use if people need this, or someone can volunteer some space and databases.

Alternatively, you could install php and mysql on your local pc, but then you wouldn't be able to post a live link for us to test.

I'd be willing to provide some resources -- I can offer php 4 or 5.  What I may do is set up a web based sandbox rather than worry about accounts for everyone -- which would work for less complicated things that didn't require a lot of external file dependencies.

Ok, a rudimentary sandbox is now available here.  Feel free to repost/sticky as necessary, mouser.  A mysql database will also be provided in a day or two.

It doesn't restrict file type, so it's appropriate for all web technologies.

It seems the sandbox is not functioning correctly anymore. . .

Yeah, should work.  I've removed the access list, so anybody can make a directory there.

Just though I'd throw it out there but wamp (http://www.wampserve....com/en/download.php) Lets you set up a Apache server with php and MySQL support on your computer letting you work off line. It is pretty painless to do to though you may want to look at security first before actually putting it online for anyone to access.

Seems as though the sandbox is once again not available anymore.

Oy, I pulled the plug on it. I didn't realize anyone actually used it.

My guess is that no one really does. But if that's the case, maybe you should edit your previous post to say that the sandbox is no longer available.

Then I'd feel like a douche.  Sooo the dcschool works again, I'm not sure I have the user files backed up though. Looking around to see.

I'd switched hosts and didn't bother setting up the subdomain for it. Not like I was *trying* to destroy it.
