Windows 7 Family Pack Upgrade
« on: December 07, 2009, 02:53 AM »
Hi,

Does anybody know if there would be any issues with purchasing a Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Family Pack for XP or Vista users in the US but installing it on laptops in Ireland? In case you are wondering why, it's because there is a significant price difference!
Thanks

Damian

Two issues I am aware of:

1) Finding a US seller that will ship outside the US as it violates the distribution license (I presume you have achieved this bit)

2) Support from MS may be limited if installation codes are serialised by market - is it an issue though since MS support is pretty poor at the best of time?

1) I have "volunteered" a friend to bring it back with him on his annual Christmas trip home.
2) As for support, who needs MS when we have the expertise of the DonationCoder community!

Seems the FamilyPack is "sold out" in USA - so your friend must act fast,if he can get anyone to sell him this now.

Yeah I'd read that and I've got my fingers crossed he might get a copy somewhere.

Well keeping my fingers crossed didn't help.

Does anyone know of where they still have copies of Windows 7 Family Pack Upgrade available (for delivery to US)?

Thanks

As far as I know pretty much all online retailers are "out of stock", by design from MS. Local retailers have in-store stock that is quickly dwindling, so that may be your best bet for your local contact...

Australia  :D

It's just gone on sale here, currently AU$237, which is more than they were flogging it in the USA, (thieving b@st@rds), but it is available - I saw it yesterday.

For those interested, the Family Pack is being made available again this month, "for a limited time" (what's that all about?). Anyway, it's on sale in the UK from October 22, and is available for pre-order now on Amazon and, I am sure, other retailers.
