Outpost <7 being abandoned

(1/2) > >>

Curt:
In the previous newsletter we reminded you of Agnitum’s decision to stop updates and support for all Outpost versions older than 7.0 from October 1, 2010, and urged you to swap for the newest version — 7.0.3  (or upcoming 7.0.4). As the deadline comes closer we’ve been receiving tons of requests to give latecomers another month for consideration and action. So we do! Take a chance to migrate to the latest Outpost version — 7.0.3 (or 7.0.4) before November 1, 2010!

Users of older Outpost Pro versions (before 7.0) will no longer receive update services, including antivirus, antispyware, ad and site blocking, firewall rules, and host protection module updates.-Agnitum newletter

Tuxman:
What does that have to do with being abandoned?

Microsoft doesn't support older WIndows versions anymore either, but still Windows is not abandoned.

What exactly have I missed?

Carol Haynes:
Why would anyone run out of date security software (unless the new one is too full of bugs)? For once Agnitum are right - but then why does anyone bother ... just use a free AV and Windows firewall behind a NAT router.

Curt:
-not being supported, sure is being abandoned,

"Firewall software" is snakeoil. Independent of who developed it.
