Resolution change after thumbnail-ing

(1/2) > >>

wideeyedguy:
I posted a follow-up note previously regarding the wide, black border that was showing up
when applying the 'thumbnail' effect to a screenshot capture. That problem seems to have
been remedied in the latest version update. I am currently using 2.84.02

However, I'm having a very disappointing experience with this program creating
screenshots that are too fuzzy to use.

Below should be an image showing a screenshot capture prior to thumbnail'ing:

This is a simple capture using Select Region marquee selection.

Below, should be an image showing the result after applying the Thumbnail effect
which adds the Shadow border and copies to the Clipboard:

This should appear as if the resolution is much fuzzier than the image without the Thumbnail'ing.

Here is an image (fuzzy also after Ctrl+PrintScrn capture) showing my thumbnail settings:

What am I not understanding about Thumbnails versus the original capture?
And, why is a simple Ctrl+PrntScrn capture so fuzzy also?

Thanks much,
weg

wideeyedguy:
Quick follow-up to my own post.

Since I could not test the appearance of the image of the Thumbnail Maker settings
prior to final post, I wasn't sure how well it would display.
In the SC user interface, it is fuzzy, but posting the PNG attachment shows
it to be perfectly fine.
Is this another issue I'm having with SC setting or something?

My request about the Thumbnail still is a problem as you can see from the post.

A few versions back, I was not having any problems with resolution/fuzziness.

mouser:
The "fuzziness" / blur you are seeing happens when large images are shown less than smaller than 100% zoom.

If you change to 100% zoom (see checkbox at top right of interface) you should see the fuzziness / blue disappear.

It does NOT affect the actual saved file, only the temporary view of it on screen.

Now, to try to improve the look of the reduced-size display more to your liking, go to the "Interface Options 1" tab, and look at the settings for "Smoothing" -- try different methods there (try None first).

As for big borders in thumbnails -- that in the thumbnail option dialog, you can adjust whatever border you want.

mouser:
By the way, the thumbnai maker dialog ALSO has a separate option for what smoothing filter to use when reducing size image -- so if you feel like your thumbnails themselves look blurry when reduced in size, try changing the *THUMBNAIL* smoothing filter, which is in the Thumbnail Maker dialog (in File menu).

wideeyedguy:
Thanks for taking the time to explain.

I did experiment with the various smoothing in T-Maker and the
only obvious change is when NONE is used compared to Linear or some other.
Does not seem to be any noticeable difference between the various filters
nor can I get the thumbnail to sharpen.

Done for now.
