Not to pour cold water, but download accelerators have quite a fair pinch of snakeoil about them.

At least for HTTP, multiple connections really adds robustness and not speed to downloading, yet they've been hyped for ages.


EDIT: it seems to be a peer-to-peer as it claims using networked computers, or maybe it's server-peer based - that will speed you up but the details are very unclear on their site, which I find worrying.

for download managers I have tried many but my favorite is ReGet Deluxe.  Nice GUI, stable, and has just the right amount of features for my taste.  Although it's not freeware, you get what you pay for.

Basically, it searches for servers that are hosting the same file and then uses them along with the original server (which speeds up the download).

I wouldn't mind trying Gigaget but the links aren't working for me and I tend not to try any download managers that aren't supported by the FlashGot extension for Firefox. 
My favorite is also ReGet Deluxe.
