SUPER© converter download link
« on: July 19, 2010, 09:42 AM »
I realized my own version of SUPER was getting old, so I thought it was time to update an easy-to-find link for downloading the newest version (from Major Geeks). For people who don't want to spend the rest of the month searching the idiotic eRightSoft site for the SUPER setup file.

Super 2010 Build 38: http://majorgeeks.com/Super_d5117.html
- the first download link is the *slowest*.

Edited:
anyway, i go to FileHippo.com to download it.. • http://www.filehippo.com/download_super/

SUPER © Universal Player Encoder & Renderer. A GUI  to ffmpeg, mencoder, mplayer, x264, mppenc, ffmpeg2theora & the theora/vorbis RealProducer plugIn.

If you need a simple, yet very efficient tool to convert (encode) or play any Multimedia file, without reading manuals or spending long hours training, then SUPER © is all you need. It is a Multimedia Encoder and a Multimedia Player, easy-to-use with 1 simple click.

SUPER © is totally FREE to download and to use. It plays & converts very fast full length movies to any other format with NO time limitation.

SUPER © can also play and save Internet Media Streams with different protocols like: mms:// rtsp:// http://
edit: added the "©" to the title

By far the most convoluted download link I've ever had the pleasure to find.  It's been that way forever.  It's almost as if they don't want you to download the file! ;D

I always chuckle whenever I visit the Super site.  It's like a Where's Waldo for download links.  Lots of text also.  Just blah blah blah blah blah, next page...blah blah blah blah, next page, blah blah blah, is that a download link there?  Doh, nope!  blah blah blah...
^^ That is an accurate description of a visit to the Super site.

The saving grace of the software is that it's free and it does pretty much everything you can think of.

It's also a terrible name for a software.  The official name is "Super©" yes, the copyright symbol is part of it.

You know, I'm going to create my own software...let's say for business modeling...and I'm going to call it:
"Program®"

That will make it easy to find.

i think finding the download for super is purposely made to be confusing, frustrating, and error prone,
in order to prepare you for the experience of using the software itself.

definitely a powerful program, but one of the more frustrating programs to use.. i don't recommend it for people who just want to quickly convert something.

-you're right, mouser. It took me many bad conversions to figure out what to do, and what not to do. Maybe the biggest step forward came when I 'learned' to use the right-click function.

I guess SUPER came to me in a (short) period of my life when I had a little more patience, than I have now!  ;D

Very true.  There's another thread here about good conversion programs.  I like Super when I need to do weird conversions and you want control over every little thing.  It's extremely flexible that way.

For nice and easy conversions, i use formatfactory.  It was recommended here.

I would recommend MediaCoder above most.

But thanks for the tip on WinFF. I will go and see if I can find it.

I had clearly forgotten why I don't use FFmpeg: authors, offering their applications packed in "bzip2 tarball" or "gzip tarball" only, are doomed to be neards writing nerdish programs for neards. One can never trust such people to deliver userfriendly solutions.

Hmm.. I spent over 12 hours converting a wmv to mp4 so it would play on PS3 and the PS3 says the file is corrupt. >:(

The file seems to play fine in Windows Media Player though. :-\

I made a thread about this kind of frustrations.  Dealing with video files is so hairy.  Codecs, different players, container formats, ability to seek, interlacing, framerates...ugh.

But SUPER has a setting for outputting to PS3 format, so I shouldn't have to touch anything else (and I didn't!) to get it to convert and play on the PS3.

Seems like no matter what I try, nothing plays on the PS3. WMV, AVI, MP4. . . None of my video files (that I've tried, which are few) work. :(

Funny: I tried SUPER to convert a flash some other software made to mp4... created it but YouTube wouldn't accept it (something about the audio [there wasn't one])  :( :( :(

downloadsquad.com today features another FFmpeg front-end called "Hamster Free Video Converter". the UI looks clean enough and it seems support a lot of devices. seems like a good click-n-convert app without worrying about the parameters.

I dunno. It's not exactly rocket science. I just double-click on the tar.bz2 download; then click on the tar folder that next appears, and 7zip unpacks it without so much as a sniffle. Doesn't sound all that 'nerdish' to me.  :)
