Great piece of software for e-publishing (Help files, PDF files and lots more) now freeware

Miffed that I paid for it but it is a great bit of software - now thoroughly affordable ;)

Just hope it doesn't mean no more development  :tellme:

Thanks, I have to check this out. I am currently using KEL CHM creator to create organize my first helpfiles which is fine, but it is hardwired to use Notepad as an editor, so I'm thinking this has to be an improvement.

just a note to others: it's always great to attach a picture to a post when writing about something on a website that you think deserves some attention -- that way i can add it as a blog entry and use the image.

Just looking at the download page - I notice the SDK is written for Borland Delphi. I wonder if the move to freeware signals that they are no longer going to be using Delphi and hence the program development has reached its end?

I certainly hope not. I purchased version 1 and had version 2.3 installed (the last commercial version).

I suppose it should at least keep working for a reasonable length of time since it is Windows 7 compatible.

Is this something that compares with Surfulater or UltraRecall in any way?  Does it let you clip from the web?

Or is it actually something different?

I got the feeling from their homepage, that they chose to make InfoHesiveEP free to get publicity and traffic for their backup products. I would guess they found they were making most of their money from that (and it probably requires less support as well compared to this).

Just wanted to mention that Universal Extractor seems to unpack the setup file ok.

I've copied the contents of the {app} directory to another folder as a part of an attempt to see how portable this is :)

It can be unpacked using UE, but it's not portable (writes to the registry and the User profile folder).
I've just made a JantePE launcher for this if anyone's interested.

It is unlikely to be at all portable as it requires the installation of some libraries during set up (not least the MS CHM authoring tools).

I tried it (and am using XP Pro SP3) -- importing seems to lead to the app terminating.  Was able to create a new book though.
