Japanese characters not working
« on: June 21, 2010, 12:13 AM »
I have a number of folders with japanese kanji in names (mostly program files\xxx paths for installed programs).
When I tried to create a link to it manually - on copy/paste in config screen I get ??? instead of characters so LaunchBar cannot find the path when running the item.
I thought that's the usual non-unicode behavior... well, it is worse.
It does the same thing when I have system codepage set to japanese.
I asked my japanese friend to try it, she has pure japanese windows so codepage shouldn't be an issue. Well, still the same - even on native jap windows copy/pasting path into config gives ??? instead or kanji.

Well, I think asking for full unicode implementation is too much but can you make it work with windows system codepage properly in these situation?

seems reasonable.

question:
if you BROWSE to the directory in question instead of copy and paste -- does it work in that case?

Thanks, that works for now!
When browsing and selecting file and working directory the item works, but characters are garbage. I think japanese windows-932 encoding is shown as pure ascii - two symbols per each character and copy/pasting that unreadable string in hex mode gets me correct string in notepad later.
For now I don't really need anything more that simple shortcuts but in a long run it will limit usability - for example, typing kanji into arguments field would be a hard job since you can't see what you type and can't paste them either.
