Honestly, who here actually owns an iPad? be honest!
« on: June 05, 2010, 10:22 PM »
We talk a big game here, but I'm sure some of us actually own ipads.  Come on!  Be honest!

And it counts, if an immediate family member has one.

FYI, I'll be getting one soon.  I'll explain why later.  Yes, I realize it might possibly be the most hypocritical thing I've ever done.

Nope. Not going to either. Unless I am forced to write iPad software...

But for Apple... I just bought another TV show episode through iTunes... and I feel seriously very dirty when I do. I honestly feel like I just paid a prostitute or something. I don't know just how dirty I would feel if I bought an iPad.

haha....I know how you feel.  My little sister bought an iphone recently, and i caught myself feeling weirdly defensive and uncomfortable about it.  So, I had to slap myself and yell "Snap out of it!".

No iPad here.  My sister-in-law, one of those types that needs to show everyone she has some new, trendy and allegedly cool device has one and I have not even seen it.  The iPad is one of the worst examples ever of selling a useless object over nothing but hype. To me, the only folks who bought one of these are the iClones who have this desperate need to show everyone else they have it while pretending to not really care.  Welcome to the Idiocracy folks, I am just waiting to see a show called "Ow My Balls!"

I suppose if Apple can market something like this to dimwit upper class hipster yuppie clones, I can market my new product:  iStick.

Everyone will want iStick.  You can wave it in the air, you can poke things or people with it.  It makes a whooshing sound that is just a must have.  iStick comes in different editions:

*Starter-iTwig style iStick for your kids!  (Not to be put in your child's mouth. Poking NOT recommended.)

**Basic-Larger version of iTwig, perfect for your tween.  They will all want one! Safe for tween sword battles, poking dead things, and more.

***Regular-This is the iStick. Teens can use it as a wand while re-enacting their favorite Harry Potter scene, play Light Sabers, and so much more!  Buy two for true multi-tasking ability!  Buy an iStick for your elderly mom and dad for use as a walking assistance device!  You will be a part of the "in" crowd with your new iStick!

*****Deluxe-Branch out to the deluxe iStick (Also called iBranch) which can be used as a home or personal defense device!  Home invasion?  NO problem!  Get your deluxe iStick!  Dark alley in the city? Carry your deluxe iStick as a deterrent. Hooligans will think twice once they see your deluxe iStick.   Deluxe iStick can also be used as a flotation device in case of emergencies.  Use a fuel for fire NOT recommended.  Never leave home without your deluxe iStick. (Additional shipping charges for deluxe iStick may apply)

COMING SOON!  New decorations for your iStick,! iCovers, iStickers, iPaint and more!

Nothing Apple here,
Phone...Droid or BB,
Tablet...will probably never buy one of any kind.
Desktop or Laptop...is and probably will always be one of Sony, Asus, Dell, etc.

I just think it's hilarious that the question was "Who owns an iPad" and only anti-iPadders show up for comment  ;D ;D

Well, I haven't owned any Apple stuff ever, although I did some stuff on the Apple ][ (pronounced "two") when I was in college, and in a previous job touched a machine running Microsoft Entourage for Mac on occasion. If I think of the iPad as an a ebook reading appliance, it's somewhat tempting. But it's not really in my budget, and I'm waiting for the One True Ebook Reader to emerge before I commit, or else just read ebooks on my PDA.

Isn't it the only ebook reader that's in color? Which was the same deal with the Apple ][ for a while. Plus, I could watch Netflix instant watch on it. But for the price I could get a nice PDA on ebay which to my mind would be more powerful (no stinking app store for one thing).

If I think of it as an appliance, well, you don't expect to be able to install whatever software you want on an appliance, such as a toaster. Unless Even if it's a Cylon..hmm, tangent there.

I have one of these.

The iPatch
iPatch.jpg

It only works for one eye at a time and, if I break the elastic, it must go back to the manufacturer for an expensive repair.

Probably because the way original post was worded there was an implication of a plea for us to be honest and reveal our secred iPad lust.

It's only natural people will post replies stating "I've been honest all along! I really truly & sincerely do not own a steenkin' iPad and never will."

I don't see what the attraction is. You have to hold it always if you want to be comfortable. Hands-free operation means having to lay it down somewhere which isn't the ideal ergonomic environment for me.

You can only run apps from the Apple Store. I cannot run the same programs I love & rely on that are installed on my PC so data interchangeability is going to be either limited or nil.

The only use I can see for one is an iPad would make a great prop when nerds go to SciFi conventions dressed up as their favorite Star Trek & Stargate characters.

$500 for a fashion accessory is a little steep, but hey....Apple built an entire business around charging steep prices for fashion accessories.

It's a tool... if it works for your workflow and you can see it being a boon, then why let the naysayers dissuade you?  And if you don't see it working for you, why let the hype persuade you?  Some people will see a use for it, some won't.  Personally, after looking at it and truthfully evaluating it, it will really help.

So it's not about courage, it's about pragmatism.

My sister owns and iPod, mother an iPhone. Wouldn't go for either myself, Creative Zens and my HTC Touch HD2 are just too much more convenient for me.

Okay, you got me. I was just trying to be in the cool crowd with the Apple bashing going on here. I own three iPads.

They're just so smurfing awesome and useful! I can't stand the idea of not having one in the bathroom, so I'm looking at getting a fourth. :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Hahahaha~! :)

You may not be able to, though. Apple apparently has limited the number that you can own. They only accept credit cards to purchase one, and they keep track of WHO owns them. Privacy implications aside, it's really a dick move to pull.

That's interesting, I didn't know there was a limit.
And what if you bought it for someone else?
Do you have to tell them?
I would think something is really wrong here.

Totally off topic, but that's absolutely one of my favorite books! Definitely in my top 10, and likely top 5. :)

Now that's glory for you~! :P
