How to uninstall driver in Windows XP command line safe mode?

Hi guys, I have an emergency.  I was using a corporate laptop, and the fingerprint sensor wasn't working.  i was browsing online, and one of the suggestions was to use another maker's driver.  i did, now the laptop gives me an error at the logon screen.  Same with normal safe mode.  But I can get into the Safe Mode with Command Line.  How can I uninstall the problem driver using the command line?  Thanks...

maybe it's possible with DevCon but imho it's better to use the restore CD.

I'm always amazed by all the stuff available on the internet for fixing problems like this.  I need to learn to stop fiddling around with my company's computers.  One day, I'm going to get myself in deep doo doo.

And I'm amazed that worked. Fixes the GINA value? There must be no such thing, I would have heard of it, lol. Doug has a nice site there, I'll check it out.

Found some information about it. If you follow the URLs to Microsoft KB's on the issue, it says that some programs by Symantec and Cisco do something very virus-like (to me) and overwrite Windows files:

Well, I thought it was the driver that was the problem.  Apparently, it wasn't, but something during the driver installation screwed up the Gina thing.  I have no idea what I'm saying, I'm just explaining what happened.

Ooooo....lucky man!

I'm guessing the driver that got installed for the fingerprint reader (IBM or Lenovo laptop by chance?) didn't include a necessary hook for the OEM modification (or replacement) of the standard MsGina.dll. Possibly even keyed to the specific type of reader hardware to help prevent you from doing exactly what you did.

But who really cares why? You got it working again - and all on your own. Good Man!

For the curious, GINA is Graphical Identification & Network Authorization.

By default there are 2 in Windows; the home user Welcome Screen, and the Corporate Style CAD Logon dialog.
