SRWare Iron 5.0.380 beta browser

sajman99:
Yep, thanks for the update. 8)

btw the Iron site is in need of a makeover IMO; it's now been two years with the same boring layout.

In stark contrast to Firefox, Opera, etc., you have to read the small print (ie. Datum: 25.10.2010 Version: 7.0.520.0) to know about the new Iron version. And it's not even on the home page. Man, that's a subdued approach. Firefox and Opera will club you over the head with the latest news/version. ;)

sajman99:
Latest Iron release is 7.0.520.1.

Darn, why can't they go back to the infrequent updates? ;)

sajman99:
btw there's plenty of information and misinformation regarding Chrome/Chromium/Iron.

For a non-programmer such as myself, I have to admit confusion as to some of this stuff. For example, this unknown person has concluded Iron is a total scam.

I don't buy into it, but it is interesting food for thought.

MilesAhead:
There was a bug report on Chromium that google searches created a unique identifier "on the fly" to get the data they want even if you erased the unique ID in the install directory by using a utility.

Supposedly the way it goes is "Chrome" is a "branded browser" so it's ok for them to use this unique ID, but "chromium" is a "non-branded browser" so it's not supposed to do such nasties.

The above link is the bug report that chromium was doing the same thing as chrome.  Somebody forgot to disable it apparently. :)  Supposedly it's fixed now.  ;)

I guess the moral of the story is don't search google unfiltered.

thanks for the update news, sajman99..

like you, i'm not sure what was that all about but MilesAhead highlights an important point, that is not to search google unfiltered, which by now i guess everyone would have switched to scroogle.

on an unrelated note, i think that it's uppity on Google's part not to allow the users' to choose the installation path.
