that multi fan case is insane, or genius, i can't decide. the amount of noise that all the fans must produce must be super annoying - maybe not if they were slow spinning.

could this be the start of a new trend to make the most disturbingly loud air cooled pc?

as for the mini-itx projects, cool - i think i'll build a mini pc INSIDE my current pc like some kind of parasitic twin - how's that grab ya?

Haha, cute idea :)

I'd love a mini-itx for my next server... probably not EPIA considering the pretty low performance and relatively high price, though. Some shuttle mini motherboard with a P4 celeron should do...

Dang.

It was a few years ago now, a friend of mine had one of those humongous 386 towers as his computer case and actually bolted a box fan to the side of it. Running on low speed, it did a great job with minimal noise.

OK this is prolly the silliest idea to come into my head, but you asked for it...
Start with wireless I/O via Bluetooth or something so the motherboard is totally disconnected physically from the keys, mouse, drives, etc. and is running on one of those mini power supply thingies with a few of those miniature 12 volt camera batteries. Still tracking me? Now...
SPIN THE MOTHERBOARD!
