Inconsistencies in file matching
« on: January 28, 2006, 09:57 AM »
I am trying to use F&RR primarily as a file search tool.  I have ~ 7,700 files in a "My Projects" folder under "My Documents."  There are many subfolders in a fairly deep hierarchy under My Projects.

I want to be able to quickly search for specific files OR folders using F&RR.  My problem is that sometimes this works beautifully, sometimes not at all.

For example, I have this folder:
G:\Documents and Settings\...\journal articles\individual differences (JASIST)

If I launch F&RR and search for 'individual,' it comes right up as the first hit.  Perfect.

But I also have this folder:
G:\Documents and Settings\...\My Projects\Consulting

If I launch F&RR and search for 'consulting'--no results.  Same for any shorter string (e.g. 'consult') or 'consult*'.

I've seen similar discrepancies with other folders and files--can't see any obvious pattern.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
--Abe

Acrystal.. I think your problem has nothing to do with farr inconsistencies..
Farr doesn't search for folders, only files.
What you can do is add shortcuts to your folders somewhere in a folder that farr searches.
If you've detected such problems with files, please post the problems so as we (mouser  :tellme:) can enlighten you :D
(if you'd really like farr to be able to search for folders, please post your love for farr to help us persuade mouser to launch the new farr v2 ;) )

F&RR doesn't search for folders?  Seems to me it does.. See the attached screenshot for an example--the first result is a folder.  Or is there something I'm missing?

if its picking up folders it's either a bug or its found a shortcut file pointing to a folder.

but folder finding is coming with v2.

Ah, I see.  It gets the shortcuts from Recent Files, which then look like folders in the search results.

Thanks for the input.

Mouser--Folder search would be great feature, glad to hear it's coming!
