I have posted a beta update with new vista/win7 semi-transparent aero glass capture:
http://www.donationc...eta/MiniCapSetup.exe

v1.20.01 - 5/3/10
  • [Feature] Updated with latest Screenshot Captor capture code.
  • MajorFeature] Completely re-rewritten new method for capturing Aero Glass themed Semi-transparent windows on Vista and Windows 7.  Based on an approach described by Ian Griffiths (http://www.interact-...7/01/30/recoveralpha), with several tweaks for automatic border detection and improved color handling.  A new options tab ("Windows Capturing") was added to control the various options for it.  Note that by default SC will preserve the entire transparency recovered from the window; this will allow you to composite the screenshot in graphics editing software with it's original semi-transparent regions and effects.  By default SC will attempt to remove the shadow effect imparted by Aero, but you can change this via commandline options.
  • [BugFix] Was refusing to capture certain windows like Google Chrome; errors in capturing are now reported better.

v1.18.01 - 12/25/2009
  • Added commandline options for grayscale and black+white conversion.

Hello there,  dont you think I should do a trial on the program  to see if I would use it,   then if so  would be happy to donate.   Running the donation blurb so early leaves an opinion that the  writer(obviously very talented) is more interested in the income than the use of the  program.      I think the   donation splash should come up at least a week after the download.   thanks.

moffitt -- welcome to the site and thank you for taking the time to post.

First, i think you must be talking about Screenshot Captor, because i don't think MiniCap has any blurb or nag or anything.  at least not to my memory.

If you are talking about Screenshot Captor (the big brother of MiniCap), then the situation is a bit harder to explain.  My big apps, like Screenshot Captor, pop up a quick welcome message the first time you run them, and then will start to ask you to download a *FREE* license key after about 10 days;  to get that you just come to our site and visit the license key page.  Once you put that in you shouldn't be reminded again or see any sign whatsoever for 6 months, at which point you can drop by the page again for a new key.

I know it's confusing, but the attempt is not to nag people to force them to donate -- but to try to at least get people to realize that our site survives only through the donations of users, and to make sure they don't at least visit our site to learn that if they are going to use our software.

My mind is swimming with so many MiniCap options here.

Would someone please put together the code for the following?

-- Hit a hotkey, say PrntScrn

-- Take snap of entire single monitor

-- Save to folder:  c:\snaps\

-- Save in png format

-- Use the following date/time format for file naming:  yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss

-- Make a nice distinct audible sound so that I have confidence a screenshot was actually snapped (allow user to select some wav file, such as a camera click of choice -- wav file is located at c:\sounds\camera.wav)

-- Stay "resident" so that I can hit PrntScrn again after while

End result:
c:\snaps\2011-08-25 16:23:37.png
c:\snaps\2011-08-25 19:04:52.png
c:\snaps\2011-08-25 21:18:01.png
c:\snaps\2011-08-26 00:48:29.png
etc...

Thanks much!

Nicholas

P.S. -- would doing what is requested above be better with big brother ScreenShot Captor?

You want Screenshot Captor, it will do everything you are requesting easily.

MiniCap is when you don't want it to stay resident and don't want to trigger capture via hotkey.

v1.23.01 - Oct 21, 2010

Thank you a lot dear mouser. The utility is great, For even people like me who seldom take a shot, and it made me feel so good while using it. Thanks again.

Just one point, (I am not sure if it is proper way to request or not or if this a bug or something).
Could you please set the focus on "Filename" window when -promptsave is used. I tried to take a screenshot and name it but it requires (manual) shifting of focus to the window before I could write into it (or even press "enter key" to confirm the suggested name).

one exception to this is when I take screen shot of a window which is "maximized" and is above all.

Thanks again for a great software.

Thanks for the great program. I take it and very happy.
Call it from your script directly to a printer (command:-capturescreeen -print -exit).
But I can not save print settings. By default, field = 1 and ednitsy measurement = inches. With each new call to put out these values. I've got to 0, and centimeters. Where are these options? In the registry and miniсap.ini I have not found.

Sorry for my English. :)

Hi Srpirny,

Sorry for the delay in replying -- i've spent the last couple of weeks working non-stop on a new program and I'm a bit behind in other things.
I will try to add ability to pass the print settings via commandline.

Hi mouser. In v1.28 the red caption bar flickers quickly on my Win7 X64 system even when the mouse pointer does not move.

No need. Because I can't reproduce the problem myself now. The culprit earlier was likely something else I had running at the same time. Will post back if it happens again.

makes sense -- probably something fighting with minicap for foreground focus.

Today I had an use for a command line screenshot tool, and MiniCap worked great! Thanks Jesse

Especial the possibility to specify a window by its name was pretty welcome, as so I could work in another window in the meantime.

I used this batch to capture a screenshot every ten seconds (while I was still working in another app, great!):

_everyXSeconds.cmd
Code: Text
  1. @ECHO OFF
  2. CD %~dp0
  3.
  4. SET myfilename=shot_$uniquenum$.png
  5. SET stopatname=shot_234.png
  6.
  7. :loop
  8.         start "" MiniCap.exe -save %myfilename% -captureappbyname myapptocapture.exe -exit -compress 1
  9.
  10.         REM use ping on WinXP
  11.         rem ping 127.0.0.1 -n 11 >nul
  12.         REM use timeout.exe on Win7
  13.         timeout /T 10 >NUL
  14.
  15.
  16. REM break condition after 234 shots:
  17. rem IF NOT EXIST %stopatname% goto :loop
  18.
  19. REM continuous loop, close the DOS-Box itself to stop the capturing:
  20. goto :loop
  21.

UPDATE, change stop condition mode:
Code: Text
  1. @ECHO OFF
  2.
  3. REM U S E R    S E T T I N G S:
  4. SET myfilename=shot_$uniquenum$.png
  5. SET AppnameToCapture=msword.exe
  6.
  7.
  8.
  9. REM T H E    C O D E:
  10. CD %~dp0
  11. SET counter=0
  12. :loop
  13.         start "" MiniCap.exe -save %myfilename% -captureAppByName %AppnameToCapture%  -compress 1 -noFocus -exit
  14.
  15.         REM stop for ten seconds, then loop again
  16.         REM use ping on WinXP
  17.         rem ping 127.0.0.1 -n 11 >nul
  18.         REM use timeout.exe on Win7
  19.         timeout /T 10 >NUL
  20.
  21.
  22.         REM break condition, stop after twenty shots:
  23.         SET /A counter+=1
  24.         IF %counter%==20 EXIT
  25. rem continuous loop
  26. GOTO loop
  27.

I really enjoyed with MiniCap. But there seems little bug around `-captureredregselect` command-line option. When I capture with this option and set rectangle area 320 width and 200 height, I get width 319 and height 199 image (1px smaller than specified size). Please fix this!

Hi hail2u!

This was a bug in a recent Screenshot Captor, so I just need to rebuild MiniCap and it should be fixed.  I've been delayed releasing some updates recently, but I will really try to get it done this weekend.

I have an issue with minicap on my laptop (high DPI screen but I've set it to 1920x1080).
When I start minicap with the -captureregselect parameter the screen is zoomed in a bit and the right/bottom side of the screen out of view. This means I can't screencap regions in the right/bottom part of the screen.

Once the minicap process ends the screen zooms back into the correct resolution again.

-captureredregselect works as expected and doesn't zoom in, but I prefer the more minimal -captureregselect
