I don't often read CNET articles these days (they seem too often to be partisan in their opinions) but this caught my eye and was an interesting read ...

Hmmm, pretty interesting.

Does iPods require special crappy Apple software to transfer stuff to them, or do they show up as a drive without needing any drivers? They probably do require software (iTunes or whatever), otherwise I can't see how this user information would be stored on them.

Yet another reason to avoid Apple crap and get a Zen instead ^_^

iTunes loads a service called iPodService even when you haven't got one. I'd guess that is part of the iPod driver interface.

Not sure how data files are transferred though.
