Why's (Poignant) Guide to Ruby

(1/2) > >>

mouser:
a programmer who just sent me ruby code for mircryption told me about this link to a creative common's licensed book on the Ruby programming language: http://poignantguide.net/ruby/

it's a truly inspired, wacky, eccentric, lovingly written book with off-topic sidebars and wonderful cartoons.

if only all programming books were so wonderful.

[ps. i'm not a big fan of ruby but i still loved browsing through the online book]

Ampa:
Follow the lilnk to the author's blog... http://whytheluckystiff.net/

He's off his trolley!

Ampa.

I have looked at Why's ruby book a couple of different times.  This is the first time I've actually looked at his blog.  This guy is whack-o beyond compare.

Either the things he writes make some weird sense to him (most frightening) or he makes stuff up just to see how many people will actually read it.  In either case, his brain is crosswired somewhere.

I don't think he's dangerous or scary, he's more like Willie Wonka nuts.

He'll probably invent cold fusion and save the world....

Carol Haynes:
Reminds me a bit of Douglas Adams (in a strange sort of lateral way). It's the sort of writing that you come to with one expectation and leave in total bewilderment - but strangely satisfied. Dirk Gently lives - and he's into Ruby (whoever she might be). Now all you have to do is work out how to remove a sofa from the stack ....

At the end of the day he hasn't got a cat in hells chance of teaching anyone a programming language - but you'll kill a few happy hours, days, weeks, months wondering what you started reading for ...

Personally I think you should invite the guy over here to teach a Ruby class ...

--- End quote ---

This Ruby book was the first book that I ever made a personal comment on in my programming ebook list.

I love this guy's sense of humor. My kind of people  :D

If you do invite him to teach a Ruby class, I'll be there...for sure.
