I have brought forward the release of version 1.5 due to the unfortunate discovery of a serious flaw in version 1.0. That flaw has, of course, been fixed and this version includes some neat new features, some enhancements to existing features as well as some other bugs eliminated.

One of the new features is the integration of StandaloneStack2 and this means that the version of StandaloneStack provided with earlier releases is no longer supported. Also the help system has been enlarged and is now more context-sensitive. Several changes involve the appearance and behaviour of the centre button - be sure to check those out!

I have also included a good selection of backgrounds and centre button images (some of which can also be used as backgrounds).

Please see this topic for the download link.

Enjoy!

Update - 1600 GMT Feb 8, 2010
I have just released v1.51 which adds two configuration options to Stack Folders which will make them easier to work with. This update is included in the full version download but if you have already installed v1.50, then you can download and install the much smaller update patcher.

Update - 0845 GMT Feb 10, 2010
As promised, I've released v1.52. This clears several problems reported with earlier v1.5 releases - please see the "History" topic in the help pages for details of these.

Update- 1600 GMT Feb 11, 2010
Earlier 1.5 releases had a bug that manifested itself if Ctrl and/or Alt and/or Shift were used as mouse modifiers, they were otherwise unavailable. An embarrassing bug! That has now been fixed and a new command line parameter has been added.

It would be quicker if I simply tell you to copy the following files:

  • CircleDock.exe
  • CDWB.exe
  • All the language files from System\Languages

It would be quicker if I simply tell you to copy the following files:

The advantage of a single portable zip file being available for download is that the 'Make Portable' function only needs to be done once (admittedly by you) and everyone who only wants to use CD as a portable app can simply download and use that and have as many instances as they want. As it is, there are going to be lots of people out there going through the process; probably quite huge numbers given the number of downloads. People who have difficulty with it could simply use the install version.

Why - when they can already do that using the full installation program?! You can choose where you want to install Circle Dock and, provided your chosen location is not system-protected, that installation will be "portable" (except that the 'work as Portable App' setting may need to be enabled).

Or am I missing something?

You ar not missing a thing, except that to have a zip package (Standalone preset) and a full installer has become common place.
We do this at Rainmeter:

2 installers 2 zips

I each for 32 bit
one each for 64 bit

It os just a matter of catering abit to the customer needs.
At the same time the customers must also realize that hey get a product as is many times, and it is the programmer that is trying to make things easy...not or for him/her self, but the end user as well.

have it my way: I would release a standalone (set for portable mode) zip as well.
But I have left this to your good judgment Markham  Wink

Speaking from experience, distributing a Zip version may actually cause more problems than it fixes:

  • Instructions would need to be provided in 54 different languages as to how to unzip the contents correctly.
  • Users can not be relied upon to read documentation! At all. And especially "read-me"s.
  • There are many unzippers out there that don't understand relative paths
  • Inexperienced users won't understand what to do and will be confused. Telling such users to download and deploy using the installer version ain't going to fly!

Taken all of the above into account, I truly believe two things: (1) We will have more disgruntled (newbie) users and they will tell their friends = bad publicity; and (2) this board will be full of complaints and you'll be spending much of your time diagnosing installations.

Hi,
-showAll works but -show it's the same, when I use it for every CD came out this error: "An instance of Circle Dock is already running...."
I try 3 way:
  • in file.bat "c:\aaa\bbb\CircleDock.exe" -show
  • in shortcut
  • a secret way for now Wink

Mark,
Comments in the Newsletter say that 1.53 is the latest version of Circle Dock.
However, your page with links has version 1.52.  Will Circle Dock 1.53 eventually
show up with links?

Thanks (maraming salamat po) for a FANTASTIC Forum!

Kkanalz, I noticed that also. However in the download thread indicated to the 1.52 link actually downloads 1.53. I tested it just a bit ago on a hunch. He just needs to update the link text, the file has been updated.

Hello, i have a problem when hiding circledock after opening a file created from rightclick add file/folder etc.
When creating an item by dragging a shortcut or rightclick add folder, everything works as it should.
I have the hide circledock after opening file/folder checked. Using the latest version of circledock. No mouse toggle.

This could be partly my fault - the help page doesn't explain that flag setting too clearly. In the main settings dialog, "Hide Dock after opening file/folder" is a default setting and it does not affect any Dock Items you have previously established. Each Dock Item's settings dialog has, towards the bottom of the dialog, a similar check box which will be set according to whatever the default setting was when that Dock Item was created.
