I miss small things like URL highlighting and being able to use ESC instead of Alt-F4, does anyone know how willing the author is to implement new features?

There has been no update for at least a year.  If you go to his site, he has a list of things he's considering and things he isn't ever going to consider.  I only use it as a notepad replacement.  In this, it is perfect: small, fast, with a few extra features.  Anything more robust requires a full fledged editor.  I use ScitTe for AutoIt and Keynote for writing... Notepad2 is great (though I wouldn't mind an update!)

It's really great indeed, under active development, and (some, anyway ) feature requests tend to be implemented. If you're a programmer, shouldn't be hard to write stuff for it yourself, since it's based on scintilla. I've written a couple of plugins I use, which are quite helpful

That is already possible! Settings > Esc key functions.

Note that Notepad2, just as Scite and Notepad++ also uses Scintilla.

What a timely topic.  I was googling around last nite to see references to Notepad2 and found out a couple of people have updated Notepad2 from the source code, although the official package has not been updated in awhile.  Updates were mainly related to support for Ruby.

I've been using Notepad2 for a few years and recently Notepad++ (looks like v 3.5 to be released in a few days) and like them both.
