new version e-mail alert
« on: January 22, 2006, 05:37:49 AM »
Have noticed new versions of Screenshot Captor are posted rather frequently.

Is there a new version e-mail alert service or does one simply have to keep checking the program's download site?

Thanks in advance.

Several choices:

- you could use FeedBlitz (read http://www.donationc...dex.php?topic=2070.0) to get emails with the content of the DonationCoder RSS feeds (http://www.donationc...ndex.php?topic=496.0) - maybe mouser could add an RSS feed for updated programs only?

- you could create a free account at http://fileforum.betanews.com/ and add Screenshot Captor to your list there. If there's an update available, FileForum will send you an email!

i think brotherS has the main things covered, i didn't even think about the fileforum idea.
if you really want email reports, the feedblitz thread now has a simple signup url where you can subscribe to get daily email digests of this forum, or with a little effort you can create your own email digests of particular sections of the forum.

you might also look into an rss feed reader which will alert you on new information, and you could use that to monitor specific sections of the forum.

a program like website watcher could also be used to monitor specific pages for changes - monitoring the screenshot captor webpage or the releases webpage would alert you when there has been a change/newversion.

Signed-up for http://fileforum.betanews.com/ and got my first Screenshot Captor update alert e-mail today.

Alert was for prior update but can't complain considering the service is free and the program is updated so frequently.

Thanks for the advice.

An alternative is to add a feature to Screenshot Captor to periodically check for updates.

Just food for thought on making an awesome tool even better
