looking for an old science-fiction movie
« on: November 27, 2009, 02:34 PM »
Many (more than 10) years ago I watched a science-fiction movie. I do not remember much of it though, just glimpses of scenes.

  • In one scene the astronaut is driving on the moon surface in a moon buggy. After he passes, a robot rises from the dust and looks after the buggy. Like all other robots in that movie it has a red eye.
  • In another scene two astronauts finds a human skeleton in a brightly lit room that could be a control room or so. Shortly after this scene, insectoid red-eyed robots attack and are fended off with machine guns.
  • Towards the end of the movie an astronaut seems to sit in an escape pod, the ramp is aimed at the earth.

That is everything I can recall from this movie.

Do you have any ideas whatsoever, which movie this might be?

Sounds like Moontrap - one of my favourites since it has my favourite actor in it: Bruce Campbell.

My general philosophy regarding computers too :P

I *knew* it was a good idea to ask DC!  :D :D

Thanks a lot 4wd , Moontrap looks like the one I am after. Now I only need to find someone who has the DVD...

Lifeforce is another good SciFi from that era starring Steve Railsback but made more memorable by the appearances of Mathilda May au naturale.

Lifeforce was a trippy movie on so many levels. Don't try to work out the intricate plot-line of the vampire' origins as there's so much detail it'll make your head hurt.

It's a cult classic, though, every fan of vampire movies should see it at least once.

I liked that flick too.  You can see a lot more of Mathilda in the flick Becoming Colette or sometimes titled just Colette.  I've never seen it on DVD though.  It was actually a pretty good flick.  Don't know why it never made it past VHS.

If you mean Lifeforce, it is available on DVD - see Amazon.

Sorry, but Biog/Drama is just too real life for my tastes - give me SciFi, Horror or way out Action any time, no matter if it's B-grade or even Z-grade.

If I want something close to real life I can always turn the computer off  :P

In that respect it's pretty much ahead of almost all the recent movies which leave you scratching your head and going, "Wait, now just where did those guys come from and what the hell have they got to do with this?"

How could there possibly be a way to see more of Mathilda May than in Lifeforce?

That's what made it a cult classic. It was a movie with a thought-out plot. There are a couple plot holes, but nothing compared to a lot of today's movies.

If you watch Becoming Colette you won't have to ask. ;)

No, I mean Becoming Colette. It's only available on VHS afaik. I managed to tape it from cable.  But I don't even own a VCR anymore.  The male lead in the movie is the same actor who played the heavy in Never Say Never Again.  I haven't watched it in quite a few years.  Lots of times they do the old body double switcheroo but I don't think Mathilda May objected to doing her own "stunts" as it were.

Just want to point you guys to another round of "guess the movie". This one is a little bit harder, but I don't think it is impossible to crack for the absolutely splendid folks here on donationcoder.com  :P
