Anyone observing bad performance overall scrolling this forum of FF on Linux?

<< < (2/3) > >>

housetier:
I can't help but recommend using FF 3.5 over 3.0, it's so much faster overall.

urlwolf:
ok. Since I moved my desktop to linux too, I can confirm that this is not a problem with drivers, unless both machines have the same issue with different cards(!). It can be a problem with FF 3.5 on linux (thanks housetier) or with the cocktail of extensions that I have... but FF with no extensions is also quite funny scrolling this site.

urlwolf: have you specifically, manually, installed non-free video drivers, or are you running with whatever the linux distribution came with?

cmpm:
Could be the mouse.
It's settings or driver.
Or try a different mouse to see if the problem is still there.

app103:
if you have the google toolbar for firefox, make sure you have the google start page turned off. It caches its thumbnails to the same database file as your bookmarks and history, and the bigger that file gets the more problems you will have.

I stopped having problems in both Windows and Ubuntu after disabling the start page in the toolbar settings and deleting the bookmarks database (places.sqlite) and restoring my bookmarks from backup. (I also reclaimed over a gig of space on Windows by doing that)
