ScanSoft OmniPage and Canon Pixma
« on: November 18, 2009, 07:29 AM »
Good Day,
i have a Canon Multifunctional Pixma MP600R. I use the included software for wireless scanning from Nuance, ScanSoft Omnipage SE 4.0.

When, in the next future, i want to upgrade my Windows Vista to Windows-7, the software for scanning from Nuance is not compatible with/for Windows-7.
And the guys of Nuance told me that this free-included software will not be supported in the future. The same story from Canon.

They 'advised' me to buy there software for a few hundred of dollars ...

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Does anybody know if there are alternatives for that ScanSoft Omnipage? And that i can use that with my Canon Pixma?

(btw. i use also ScreenShotCaptor and i read about a 'scan-functionality'. But will that work with that Canon-machine..??).

Thanks in advance. pitrpaulus.

the bundled software is not eligible for free upgrades. that is why it is named 'SE' which stands for 'special edition'. if you have microsoft office 2003 or later, you can use a program called Microsoft Office Document Imaging (MODI) which is quite useful for scanning and performing OCR.

for freeware alternatives, try these threads below:

if you already have the latest version of SC, do give it a go. i use it daily with no problems at all.

This link shows only USD 49/- for Omnipage 17 (not Professional) but the buy link says USD 99/- -if you call Nuance you may able to get it at USD 49/- or at worse 99/- which is below "few hundreds of dollars:  :
