Icon collector for ICL files
« on: January 09, 2006, 07:11 AM »
Iam on the search....

...and need your HELP

I want to create an ICL icon library file.
I want to extract icons from .EXE, .DLLs and other ICL files
and save my own collection as a new ICL file.

Is there a small freeware out there to do that ?

I have found Icon Collector on http://www.topsection.com/ (in the freeware section)
IconColletor.jpg
wich works very easy:
- just extract icons from all files you want into the middle window
- than drag and drop the icons you want into the right window
- stupidly Icon Collector save them as ICS file ??! not as ICL file.
But the way Icon Collector works is very nice (for the first look)

So can me please anyone point to a nice freeware tool to do what i want?
Or can i change ICS to ICL ?

Nope, but I betcha Resource Hacker can. You'd have to start with a dummy .dll though... would just creating a file with .dll in the name do it? Hmmm...

can either of these tools create a .dll filled with icons?

- now i use Icon Snatcher 3.6.1.0 for to batch extract the icons and export them to an folder
- than IconJack32 1.0 Copyright © 2000 by Ziff-Davis, Inc. to collect different icons from folders
and  extract the collection as DLL file.
- than IconShop 1.13 to open the DLL and save the collection as ICL file.

My DLL have now ~500 ICOs and works as icons for the bar of TC. (WCMICONS.DLL)

No iam on the search for an freeware tool like IconSnatcher but enhanced:
- split the icon preview window to have one window for (drag and drop)collect your most wanted icons
- move/arrange your icons
- maybe rename them
- export as DLL too
- no Art work is needed

---
All this tools are stand alone, after the first install procedur, or zipped only.

I need more time to test this tools.
