Using FARR with Virtual Machines

(1/2) > >>

akidd:
No VM software I am aware allows you to pass keystrokes/hotkeys when in a Host OS to a Guest OS.

FARR is perfect for using in VMs.  Especially when using modes that hide the desktop.

For this to happen there needs to be a feature that allows you to execute FARR and have it close when something is executed.

And it cannot be a commandline option because I believe neither Fusion nor Parallels provide the ability to pass commandlines to DOCK objects in OSX or Linux.  You'd need to have the alias in some kind of launcher for this to work.

Could you please add this feature?  FARR looks great and would probably reach a new audience of those using it for functionality missing when using a VM.

Thanks for you excellent work.

mouser:
can you elaborate a little bit on how you need FARR to work vs. how it actually works now?  It's not clear to me what it does now that is not what you want.

akidd:
Sure.  I want to have an icon available that I can use to invoke FARR.  Once I have selected and run a program it should close/exit until I manually run it again.

Does this make sense?

mouser:
this can be done already.  just use a shortcut that runs the farr executable and specifies the commandline option: -standalone

akidd:
Thanks for the reply - but currently neither VMWare Fusion nor Parallels support passing a commandline in their shortcuts.  Any chance that "-standalone" could become a checkbox in settings?
