I'm curious about delphi... is it also an open source language?-jeremejazz (November 13, 2009, 09:48 PM)

Not actually. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embarcadero_Delphi

The Delphi IDE & compiler is not free or open source, this is true, but the base language is Object Pascal, of which there is a free open source compiler & IDE available: Free Pascal/Lazarus

There are some benefits to using that over Delphi, in that it is possible to compile your code to run natively on more than just Windows. (code once, compile for anywhere)

wraith808:
There are some downsides to using it also IME.  I attempted to replace Delphi with Lazarus and VS with SharpDevelop for my personal use on my projects... and am now back to Delphi and Visual Studio.

Oh, I am learning all about those downsides, as I am using Lazarus for my NANY project.  :-\ The ONLY reason for my use of it is as a learning experience and for possibly granting the wishes of some Mac users. (can't do that with Delphi)

jeremejazz:
thanks  ;D

I've used many programming languages in the past, and then I found the right one for me. Python
Python is easy to learn for beginner and has the firepower to build complex desktop and web applications.
