Man names son 2.0
« on: October 12, 2009, 10:15 AM »
A proud US father and self-confessed engineering "geek" has named his son after a computer software term.

Jon Blake Cusack, from Holland, Michigan, told local newspapers the US practice of adding "Junior" or "II" after a boy's name was too common.

So, when his son was born last week, he decided on the name Jon Blake Cusack 2.0, as if he were a software upgrade.

Mr Cusack admitted that it took months to persuade his wife, Jamie, to accept the idea.

Fair enough, but how do you teach him that it's rude two point?

Hmmmmmm, I don't see the big deal.  The dude just came out of the dark ages of using Roman Numerals.  If he named the kid Jon Blake Cusack.dll that might be a different story(or even a whole library.)

And when the kid is lost, he has to ask for bi-directions?

This topic reminds me of the old xkcd.com comic: Exploits of a mom

Reading the subject line, I thought the guy had named his son "2.0" and thought "what a complete dolt". This makes a strange sort of sense. Still, I doubt the kid'll be thanking his dad in the coming years...

Heh heh.  I bet the fellow turns out to be a philosopher.  "I thunk, therefore an instance of me exists!"

What happens when the next child comes along? Presumably a new version will be an upgrade and therefore they lose the right to the original version!

Presumably the poor kid will be relagated to a dusty cupboard where old software goes to be out of site (until the tidy up and throw out).

Seriously though how many parents actually think about the consequences when they inflict names on their offspring!

I once new a teacher called Rhoda, she married a friend called Andrew Dick.

Needless to say he adopted her surname after the wedding otherwise she would never have gone to school again!
