HELP: Screening an entire Web page
« on: January 03, 2006, 02:35 PM »
I wanted to know if it were possible to capture the entire "webshot" of an URL or an open webpage.

Thanks!

if anyone finds any good example code for capturing scrolled windows, or similar stuff, i'd really like to take a look at it.  or if anyone who has some experience with coding such stuff, ie sending messages to windows controls i'd be happy working with them to add this.

Being the lazy sot that I am, I'd try something like printing the page from the browser to oh... say ghostscript.  Then you can convert it to a pdf.  CutePDF does this all at once.

It doesn't get you a clipboard image, but it does get you a scrolling rendition of whatever you can print...

BTW, it's free.

Otherwise you would need to capture a screen, have the user scroll down, capture the next screen (repeat as needed) and then seam the images to gether.  Image seaming is not new, we used to have to do it with hand scanners. (yuck)  You might find some image seaming code laying around that would help.

I only do miss this feature every other month... Really a shame that you didn't even try Screenshot Captor, before claiming that SnagIt is SO cool - it's a nice piece of software, but not THAT great!

id really like to hear from people about if different screenshot capture apps have different success with this feature - are there times it fails? when? any feedback about what you'd like to see in scrolling window capture etc.

spent all day working on this..
needs a quite a bit more tweaking but i do have it so it will auto scroll+pan and capture *some* windows, including internet explorer engine.
hopefully ill be posting a test version of sc with scrolling capture soon.

i think everyone would be more than happy, mouser, if you could just get it working with the common browsers. maybe that's a big task in itself, though.

i look forward to seeing this major break through in the capabilities of Screenshot Captor.

Well done - this will be appreciated by many when you can iron out the gremlins. It really is what has kept me using SnagIT so far for most screen captures as I tend to usually use scrolling window or scrolling region.

i'd love to get a list of programs people use to capture scrolling contents from on a regular basis so i can test for those.

i'd love to get a list of programs people use to capture scrolling contents from on a regular basis so i can test for those.

I don't really use this right now,
but i tested SnagIT
and
CaptureNPrint from http://www.geocities...ragon_1964/main.html

If i have an internet side how didn't want to be saved
i print this side with my PDF driver to an PDF file.
So i can later even catch the text out of the PDF.

SO some questions:
- for what want the users to capture scrolling sides ?
- and from what application did they want to capture?
- did they want to save every scroll-side in an own picture, as addition to an very long, but small pic?
---so we would get an serie of normal sized pictures, but from an scrolling-side (,for documention issue).
- did someone use sidescrolling capture? Is there an tool how could capture sidescrolling sides?
- IExpl0rer can detect sides in frames to print only this sides..... can mouser detect this too to capture this sides only? (e.g. without the ad frame from yahoo)
