windows up - unspecified - determining the source.

Hi Folks,

  When there is a message up in a window, and you do not know the program source, and it
does not tell you, is there a way to really determine ?  Short of killing processes and seeing
when it goes away ?

If memory serves me right, there used to be a tool called: cowspy (or something like that)

It would identify everything going on in the screen. You could even get information from opened windows that were not made visible as well.

Hi Folks,

Thanks.  I will be trying those out (I have a message on my screen about compressed (zip) folder being invalid, and I want to test and see which tells me best the source, before my next reboot).  And this led to some new entries on the free-biz thread.
