Innuendo:
Interesting....learn something new every day. Thanks for pointing that out.

But how do you actually do it? I don't see any menu options to do it.

Right click the tray icon and select DAEMON Tools Panel , the panel will popup down the bottom of the desktop, then click the icon that shows a CD overlaid by a floppy disk.  It's about the second icon from the search box on the left.

If you hover your mouse over it, it tells you 'Disk Imaging' or something like that.

EDIT: Corrected operation procedure.

Innuendo:
That explains why I didn't see it. I don't use the Daemon Tools Panel at all. Silly me, I thought everything that was in the Panel was also in the tray menu.

Thanks for the step-by-step, 4wd.

NigelH:
f0dder, as far as I recall, it's a binary image of the CD and I think compression of image is optional.
When you mount the CD, it's just as if  a CD is inserted in your CD player and any configured autoplay apps kick in.
With regard to whether a standard codec is used, somehow I doubt it.

For a few $$, this may do the trick.

Fine for data CDs, but do they have decent audio-ripping code?

f0dder:
NigelH: yes, it's obviously going to be a binary image of the disc, the problem is that because of the way data is stored physically on CDs (error correction and positioning information), data can be read accurately while audio cannot - so you need special audio ripping code to get proper results.
