Giampy... how does it sound?
« on: June 29, 2009, 06:50 AM »
Hail!
I use Giampy as nickname for several forums and I wonder how it appears to foreign peolple. Does it sound stupid or hateful or troublesome? What word (in your native language) does it remind you?

It would help to know your location so folks can decide if they're foreign or not...but if you like the name then it's all good.

Sounds like "jumpy" with an Italian accent.

Which is fine :)

In Romanian it resembles a little with "geam", which means window. And in English it reminds me of "jump" (the way these 2 are pronounced is more or less similar).

As an American, to me it sounds like someone is ill.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Mr. Peterson. I won't be in to work today. I'm feeling a little glampy."

In Indonesian it sounds a little like 'jampi' which means 'spell' or 'curse' but since the spelling is different, it's OK. You don't read nicknames aloud when you're reading forums, do you? :)

Thank you for your answers.
I have realized my nickname is acceptable, then I am no longer worried about it.
