I dont like popup balloons

(1/2) > >>

I was sitting here this fine mid-western spring morn calling the bank to inquire about an overdraft that IS a mistake and on hold and messing with my chess GUI, Arena, and then it happened.

Pop up Balloons.

I've had it with them. Ive NEVER used them. They scare me when they 'pop up' suddenly. Just like the toaster scares me sometimes when it pops up unannounced. I want them bereft of life and demised and ex-pop up balloons.

What is the common denominator for these attackers? Is it an Active X thing? Is there something I can prevent from loading in the wonderful Code Stuff "Starter" utility (which itself has the most unapproachable balloon tip policy access)? Needles to say I have approached this in App setups and the Windows XP Pro reg wherever possible but many persist even inside of Windows XPP. I don't like pop up balloons. :D  >:(

I found this guide for disabling popup ballons in Windows XP, i dunno if it works tough. Oh and btw i don't really care for popup ballons since i only see them when there's is a new XP update available.

The biggest problem with popup balloons is that they steal focus.

It's darn annoying getting switched out of a game, or losing your typing focus while coding, just because, say a backup job has started. And with no option to turn off balloons in that program... Grr!

Thanks for the replies.

I had before in fact gone through the reg looking for tip entries, it gets more of them than just the check box available in Tools/Folder Options and XPTweakUI.

I found one that I could zero. But I notice many programs have these pop up descriptions on their own also, they may not be so easy to zap and I was wondering if the code jockeys here could make a tool for us tip haters.  :D

I tried to make a screen cap of exactly what i am getting but the little pests don't cap!

Thanks for the help.

Try this using NirCmd
nircmd win hide class "tooltips_class32"
