Hi folks,

after switching more and more to digital media I needed (wanted) to find software that would make it easy to use digital files like physical media. While you can easily put a piece of paper as a physical bookmark into a paper book, it's not that easy with formats like PDF, MP3, AVI, etc. Finally, I found these (all are freeware/donationware) for personal use:

sound files:
1by1: http://mpesch3.de1.cc/ (Plugin pack: http://mpex.net/foru...iewtopic.php?t=18563)
Trout: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=16157.0

PDF files:
Foxit Reader: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/ (you need to enable an option)

Now I'm searching something for video files. Is there a solution out there? Either 'automatic bookmarking' or a somewhat manual solution? There MUST be something better than having to write down where you stopped...

Oh, and of course the solution should not modify the files themselves.

Two players that comes to mind are the open source SMPlayer (should come pre-configured for this)and Zoom Player (not pre-configured, but it's easy to to. See attached image).

Thanks!

I am using Zoom Player already, but never saw that option - I checked again and now I know why not: it's greyed out. Do I need to buy the Pro version for this feature?  :(

SMPlayer looks pretty good! Before I test it, let me ask you: does it support keyboard usage as well (or similarly well) as Zoom Player? Skipping around in a file, volume up/down, etc.?

Ah, yes you'll need the pro version of ZP for the bookmarking to work.

As for SMPlayer, it does indeed have a ton of keyboard shortcuts. It's originating from the Linux world after all ;)

EDIT: I've attached a screen in case SMPlayer is no longer configured for this by default.
