Icons in circle dock
« on: May 07, 2009, 08:01 AM »
Hi everybody,

Just one question,

Is it possible to have the "My computer", "My Network Places" and "recycle bin" icons in the circle dock.

Because when i make a drag and drop it doesn't work ...

Can you help me please ...

Thanks in advance.

François.

hi frenshi001

in the Circle Dock FAQ, it's mentioned that they are not directly supported but i'm not sure how "they can be accessed by calling their registry keys". i'll let you know if i find out anything.

I can't seem to drag the "My Computer", "Recycle Bin", "Control Panel", "Network Connections", etc. icons onto Circle Dock.

For Circle Dock 0.9.2: Some folders on Windows are virtual folders meaning that they don't actually have a regular path name that Circle Dock can record. However, they can be accessed by calling their registry keys. Work is being done to allow the user to just drag and drop these virtual folders onto the dock like any other file/folder. It is not known when this feature will be completed but it is a high priority.

For Circle Dock 0.9.1: Some folders on Windows are virtual folders meaning that they don't actually have a regular path name that Circle Dock can record. However, they can be accessed by calling their registry keys. Circle Dock comes with a number of these virtual folder registry keys in its CircleDockConfig.ini file. To load one of these special items, right click on Circle Dock and select "Add Special Link".

Yes i understand.

Thanks for your reply.

But i remember that for windows vista it was possible with the startdock.

Thus ... I think it will be possible for Seven and Circle Dock ... No ???

Thank you lanux128 for helping me pick up my slack here.

Been busy.

First off welcome to Donation coder.com, and CircleDock's little corner of it.

The placement of the virtual folders is possible, and infinitely do-able.

Mr. Wong (VideoInPicture (aka. VIP)) has already mentioned that he is looking to work this in.

Knowing the language that CircleDock is programmed in, and the fact that it uses .NET Framework 2.0 or higher, makes this very do-able.

Hopefully soon.

@sgtevmckay: you're welcome.. :)

@frenshi001: there is a workaround if you want to try. you have to get the CLSID numbers for these virtual folders. here is one such list from the autohotkey site for your reference.

go to the Circle Dock and right-click and add 'Blank Icon' then key-in (or copy-paste) the CLSID numbers as shown in the screenshot (Fig.1). that is all to it, i tried only "My Computer" and "My Documents" and both works ok (Fig.2). maybe you can out the rest of the items on that list.

hth and thanks for your patience.. :)
