New DC Member Kit Stuff
« on: April 14, 2009, 01:58 PM »
Most of you who are donating/supporting/honorary members of the site know about the fun and free member kit thing that you can request.  About 200 have been mailed out so far all across the globe.

I've actually got a big backlog of requests that i've been delaying sending as i try to put together some better stuff to send out.  In the past it's been mostly stuff printed on a printer and of dubious quality.

Here's a photo of the new book bookmarks that arrived today; i'll probably send out 2 of each type in the member kits (the small card in the middle is the membership card to help show scale):

dcbookmarks.jpgNew DC Member Kit Stuff

I think the best part is that these bookmarks could actually have some use value(!)

Additionally.. I've recently found a pretty cool place that will print some very high quality stickers (Sticker Robot) for a reasonable price -- but it's still very expensive to do.  It would be really fun to be able to send out a 3"x5" sheet of high quality cody stickers in the new member kits.  The price would be about $500 for a run of 1000 such sticker cards (each 3x5 card would have a few small stickers), and that supply would last a couple of years.  What do you think? Is it worth spending so much money on something that has no real purpose, doesnt in any way pay for itself, and only serves to inject a little fun into the atmosphere?

ps. the image looks a bit blurry in the photograph, but the images on the bookmarks are very clear.

Basically the way it works is that these are vinyl stickers which are shaped/die-cut.

So basically you can choose the size of the sheet and then the outlines for all of the stickers, than can be peeled away from the back.

So might thought was a 3" by 5" sized card, with 3 different roughly 1.5" by 2" small stickers laid out across the top, and then one approx. 4" by 1" long sticker laid out on the bottom.  Online the bottom one would have text and would be like the normal website banner i think.. the others would be some fun poses of cody we've all come to love.. him sitting under tree, flying in spaceship, carrying his coin.

Again the stickers would be "shaped" meaning a border around each sticker that *roughly* outlined the shape of the image, which would add some interest to it.

Alternatively, it would be cheaper to do just  one larger sticker if people think that would be better.. frankly i don't know if anyone really cares..

i think it would be fun to think of other fun old-school things that could be stuffed in an envelope and included in the membership kit.. any ideas?

I guess we're all about to find out from this thread.

My view is they're a bit expensive but I'm not in great need of stickers. I'd rather have 25 more days of DC server time

The only sticker that I require would say who I am, where I am, and where I should go next. (I've already had some very creative suggestions about the last!)

This post which you seemed to have miraculously skipped over. And yes, my spelling sucks and I know miraculously is spelled wrong.

How much does such a membership kit cost? I am pretty sure I got one at some point. But I can't find it any more (Especially those cat pictures you sent me. Those were great!).

they don't cost the recipient anything.. they cost dc based on whats in them and the shipping, maybe $2 each.
it's only economically (and time wise for me in terms of making and mailing) feasible if a small proportion of donors ask for them, which has so far been the case.

You've changed it while I am waiting for delivery... Well, I hope I will get it :)

PS.1. Printing out user's info on the back of "Club Card" would be awesome.
PS.2. Instead of simple stickers maybe take a look for a place with t-shirt stickers (with Cody, of course). I don't know the correct word for these but they are "embedded into shirt" by using hot iron.

fenix, you'll be getting the new bookmarks -- i have a backlog of 27 member kits that i havent sent yet because i was waiting for them..  however, you wont be getting these new stickers that i'm talking about since those are at least a month away even if we decide to get them made.

The small stickers would be nice to place on notebooks, laptops, etc.  People would see them and possibly inquire what it represents.  More exposure... more potential members.
The site says they are waterproof so they could also even be put on a bumper for those who are into bumber stickers.  I don't have any on a bumper but belong to an organization that supplies a vinyl sticker/decal that sticks on the inside of a window.  Do have a couple of those.  Sounds like these could stick on the outside. Then Cody can run up and down the asphalt highway as well as the information superhighway.  Just a thought.

josh you know that nick even went to the trouble of designing a cody image specifically for shot glasses.. i'm just waiting for you to find us a good deal somewhere, where we don't have to buy more than a couple dozen or so.

A membership card with the username and user's info on it, as suggested above, would be my preference over a large(r) sticker.
As for other things I would say key tags or chains, of course that's more cost prohibitive both in ordering and mailing.
