Virus detected by AVG8 Free in DrWindowsSetup.exe

(1/1)

AHMalik:
Regards.

If scanned the whole file "DrWindowsSetup.exe" it is clear but when extracted it finds:

Trogen Horse SHeur2.UPA

& blocks it

mouser:
It's a false alarm.  There is no real virus in DrWindows.

The name given is a clue that this is one of those bullshit detections that antivirus companies give when they are lazy. (SHeur2.UPA -- with the "heur" meaning heuristic, aka guess).  Never trust heuristic scanning stuff.

Here's another thread on DC about these false alarm type things:

I'm trying not to get too upset by this ridiculous behavior by antivirus companies since it's totally out of my control and because they have mostly proven their irresponsibility and that they don't care about scaring people with false positive.

Scanning DrWindows.exe on VirusTotal for a more reliable reporpt shows that it is clean:

Carol Haynes:
The main problem with all these false negatives is that it means users become blasé about virus warnings because they think their AV product is overly sensitve and stupid.

At the end of the day it does no one any good to have these false positives - especially the AV companies who try to feed on paranoia anyway.

lanux128:
all these false positives reeks of the fabled boy who cried wolf but in the end, it's the user who will bear the brunt of this farce.
